I've been natural for a little over a year now (Photos in Fotki, link below) - In this past year I wear my hair 98% of the time in a "curly puff". I've noticed that the front part of my hair (the part that is stretched due to pulling hair back into a puff) doesn't curl the way it used to when I use my "denman".

Is it possible that my 4b hair is experianceing.........strech damage? Anybody else with this going on?

anything is possible but i think if you give yourself a serious moisture/protein treatment your hair will bounce back. its just used to being pulled back is all.
try doing your puffs looser.

I am almost going on 2 years natural. My hair is always in a puff but I do not pull it back. I just let it go and let it go where it wants, LOL.

Sometimes, when I want to do something different I may pin some of it up. Give your edges a rest for a while and try some scalp massages with castor oil for the next month or two. You have very pretty hair. I think you may be the closest I've found for a hair-twin.

@ Chebaby - is there a protien treatment that you would recommend for 4B hair??? Anybody ??

@ Lucie - I've only worn my hair "out" twice, and only one of those times was it out all day lol. Still getting used to my hair. I will try the massage w/ castor oil.

Many thanks to both you ladies.

ilah, I don't know if there's such a thing as "stretch damage", but I do know that when you wear hair stretched a long time, it can seem to stay that way. I don't think it's permanent though. I don't think mechanical changes can be permanent like chemical changes (include heat here) which can change the internal structure. But I could be wrong.

There was once a thread where the OP wondered if her hair might be straight even though it's not really like Asian straight, because she thought her hair was straight. But what really was going on is she wore it pulled back all the time. She has since seen her hair curl back. I think this the same reason some people swear that their hair has no pattern. They keep it stretched for so long...and locked in stretched styles either by product or the method of styling that they swear it has no uniform pattern.

I am not sure which photos you were pointing to but I looked at your photos and your hair seems to still have its pattern. I don't see what you're referring to as "stretch damage". Can you post the URL to the pic showing this?
