Any naturals still using S-Curl moisturizer?

Has S-curl moisturizer caused any damage to your natural hair? I recently convinced my nearly 13 year old sister to go natural. She's starting with 4-5 inches (stretched) of natural hair. It's a difficult transition for her and I want to make it as smooth as possible. I had her wash and deep condition her hair. She's also styling with a mixture of S-Curl moisturizer, 911 leave-in, olive oil, and another leave-in moisturizer. The mixture keeps her hair soft but I'm concerned as to whether or not long-term use of S-curl moisturizer can damage her hair. I remember using it once to moisturize the back of my unbraided natural hair (I was growing out a cut using braids) and it worked fine. However, long term usage didn't fair too well on my relaxed hair. I want to be sure that it won't damage her hair. Any feedback is helpful.

This is an interesting question.

I found that the s-curl makes my hair very soft and after a long time of daily use I had the same question you asked. My hair felt too soft. Now that I am using it I feel the need to do more protein treatments to keep the hair stronger. I don't like that too soft feeling that it gives.

What I just started doing is using the S-curl on my wash days and on other days I use 911 leave in or Bumble and Bumble (when I have the money) Basically I alternate.

I was using it on my daughter's natural hair and didn't have a problem. I found that thing to do was to not saturate the hair with it. I did light spritzing so that the hair was moist and then coated it with oil to seal in moisture.

I use it daily on the ends of my twists and I also saturate my hair after I wash it inbetween my twist and sleep on it so that my hair is mega soft and moisturized the next day. I couldn't imagine this stuff causing damge

i used it when i had braids in last time and i sprayed it on 2-3 times a day kinda saturating it and when i took my hair down it was oooo so soft. i've never had my hair like that after i took the braids down

I was finding my hair was too soft as well...never thought I would ever say that

I was using it 2x/week...I now use it 1x/week and it's not so bad.

I don't really understand. It made your hair too soft? What does it mean for hair to be too soft, especially for a natural?

well i gess it depends with what style u wear yo hair in most of the times coz i wear mine in braids lik 90% of the time so my hair is never really too soft coz i need all the moisture i can get. Another thing is that i mix mine with infusium and distilled water so that i have a bit of protein in my spray bottle, maybe u cud try that

I found something better. Comb-thru Softener. It smells like baby powder but it moisturizes better than S-Curl. I love the stuff. I think it's cheaper too. 10oz for $3.

Too soft would mean that the hair felt mushy, like wet cotton. In that state the hair texture feels nice to touch but any softer it could break easily. When this happens it just means that you need to add more protien to strengthen the hair.

I love the Scurl activator gel. NOt the spray but the gel.

Yes you should probabily alternate. Anyway it is always good to have at least two products that you can switch between. You hair needs a break from certain products. so have alternate products for alternate days is good.

Two is sufficent I am not advocating product junkism.

Let me get it straight, so the SCurl can damage Relaxed hair after long-term repeated usage, but for Natural hair, long-term repeated usage is fine right???

bellydancer? are u talkin about the comb thru that comes in a green, mostly black and bit of yellow bottle? I think it has white writing on it? Thats the 1 u talkin about? there's some here, it just stinks to me if that the 1 u talkin about. hehehe

Yea that's close to what i'm talking about. That one smells like really strong cheap after shave. That one ssays light cream moisturizer on the front. The one that smells like baby powder says softener on the front.

It can make natural hair too soft. I think it's a bigger problem for those with fine hair. My hair has gotten so soft before it kind of dissolves meaning that it just comes apart in my hands.

Hehe, I have EXTREMELY fine hair. I left conditioner in my hair overnight and the same thing happened. I guess it's just over-softening. For this reason, I don't really ever use conditioner with heat...well, I actually rarely use it at all. And if I do, it's only during my time in the shower. Like I said, my hair is just superfine naturally.
