I removed my locs about 2 weeks ago...after growing them for seven years(7 being the spiritual number of completion)...a little voice said that it was time to move on..so I have...I didn't want to be left with no hair by cutting them all out...my locs reached almost to my waist...so I removed them with a product called takedown +conditioner...I cut them up to my collarbone and took them apart from there....and I was left with hair past my shoulders...check out my picture album on village photos..username Loctress....

You're pretty. Your hair looks nice and healthy too.. How long did it take you?

I saw a photojournal of a lady how took her locs down with some conditioner and a straight pin.. she said it took her a long time like weeks.

Wow! I was telling my hairdresser friend about being able to take locks down with out cutting off all your hair. She looked at me like I was crazy.

You are living proof that it can be done!

Your hair is absolutely beautiful! How long does it stretch now that you are lock-less?

Your hair is beautiful! You also have incredible patience to get those locs down in 10 days- hope you enjoy your new fro /images/graemlins/smile.gif

My hair when stretched out is below my collarbone....and yeah I came full circle..it takes patience to loc...and patience to unlock..it afforded me comcentrated thinking time, lol

Simply beautiful! I told my friend some weeks ago that she could take down her locks. She didn't believe me.

What was the procedure for you...taking your locs down ?

I know a girl who successfully removed her locs without cutting them off. She had them for about eight years and removed them July 2003. She had help though. Her boyfriend's mom and great-aunt helped her with the takedown process, which took about four days. They did a really nice job. I can't remember what products she used, but she did have to trim off about three inches. She now wears her natural hair loose, and it looks very lovely. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Very pretty!

/images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif The more success stories I hear like this, the more tempting getting locs becomes. Just the idea of being a Rapunzel for years and then shakin' a mane like that. /images/graemlins/grin.gif I'm waiting for Ms K to tell me when we're gonn' do this. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks everyone for the kind words....the process is simple...just time consuming...I used this product called Takedown with detangling conditioner added...soak the loc in it and then proceed to unlock...

Wow, that's dope!!!! You pics are so nice and I love your hair both ways /images/graemlins/wink.gif. Happy Growing!

I co-sign that. You have great style! Welcome to the board! /images/graemlins/wave.gif

Thanks Ladies...I'm truly loving working with my natural hair and testing out products....I may even start taking new clients with natural hair instead of locs only...over the years I have turned away so much business by doing locs only...having a natural salon like Curves in Brooklyn could be a good business move for some enterprising sistas..hmmm

Your hair is beautiful, I never knew you could remove locs like that!

well my locs had been in for 7 years...so there was 7 years worth of shedding,lol....it probably filled a plastic grocery bag,lol...my hair feels thincker after each conditioning treatment

I honestly believed up until this yr. that locs *had* to be cut out until someone set me straight. Welcome to the board!

Your locks are B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!!! /images/graemlins/up.gif /images/graemlins/up.gif /images/graemlins/up.gif
