Can someone break down this verse to me

1peter 1:15-16

Lev 11:44-45.

Living a holy life what does it really mean

on our everyday life ?

1 Thessalonians 4

Plea for Purity

1 Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God; 2 for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. 7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. 8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given[a] us His Holy Spirit.

To walk in holiness with God means several things. 1) You should repent of your sins and sin nature, ask forgiveness, and believe that Jesus died for the remission of sins. 2) Obstain for any hint of sexual immorality. 3) Obey the commandments of Jesus Christ (not to neglect the old testament). 4) Do away with legalism (obeying rules so God will love you) but love God because he took mercy on you and sent his Son to die for you. 4) Daily mediate and read his word so you can know what he commands of you and you will not be easily deceived by Satan. 5) Exhibit Fruits of the Spirit and Armor of God.

The Lev. verse calls us to holiness but refers to what you eat making you unholy. Thats cultural and old convenant.

what you mean by Legalism ?

what you mean by Legalism ?

Legalism, in Christian theology, is a pejorative term referring to an over-emphasis on law or codes of conduct, or legal ideas, usually implying an allegation of misguided rigor, pride, superficiality, the neglect of mercy, and ignorance of the grace of God or emphasizing the letter of law over the spirit. Legalism is alleged against any view that obedience to law, not faith in God's grace, is the pre-eminent principle of redemption. Its opposite error is antinomianism, which is alleged against a view that moral laws are not binding.

In essence, legalist think they are better then everyone because they can follow alot of rules and that makes them holy and God loves them more because of it. Think the scribes and Pharisees. Legalist dont realize that you can do nothing more to make God love you. He loves you regardless. We live holy to please God and because he's been so good to us, not because we want God to love us or to seek blessings only.

This is a very deep question and I find it hard to answer in one post. I will sum it up for what it means in my life.

1 Peter 3:

To live a life that is pleasing in all areas. That means studying the Word of God to find out what pleases Him. According to 1 Peter, I have been redeemed, bought, purcahsed, made free by Jesus and His work on the cross. I did nothing to deserve this, and I am eternally thankful. Because of this, I want to make sure that my ways please Him. Meaning I would rather err on the side of "extreme and it doesnt take all that" than to have an "anything goes" attitude.

In my life it means:

There are certain movies that I dont see, I make a serious effort to watch my language, clothing, thoughts... I fight daily to make certain that my ways please God... not because my ways would ever have a chance of saving me, but flows out of a desire to be found pleasing to Him.

My litmis test usually is: if the world is celebrating it I think REALLY hard about it. Generally if the world embraces an idea it is not ideal for the Christian redeemed Holy woman of God.

Lord knows I have such a long way to go.
