I remember reading on another site that if your hair is breaking it could be due to a lack of portein, moisture, or lipids. What do lipids do to the hair? How do u know if there is a lack of them?

I feel like I have the protein and moisturizing part of my conditoning regimen down, but my hair still is lacking in softness and breaks occasionally. I'm going to try out my new cholesterol conditioner to see if it helps out.
