I read in your feature of the month that you aren't faithful to protective styling at all. How in the world do you keep your hair so gorgeous all the while preventing you clothes from "eating" you hair? Whenever I wear my hair down I notive little pieces of breakage all over the place. What products are you using? Maybe I'm not moisturizing well enough. Any tips? Well thanks!

bump. Good question

yeah, that is a good question. My guess is they focus on constant moisture and dont use heat. Cutting heat out alone makes a big difference in attaining length bc that is where most breakage comes from. I cant speak from experience bc I got a lot of length from wearing my hair in a phonytail piece for nearly a year(went from cheek to shoulder length)...but Ive started wearing my hair out lately, so I guess time will tell if it works out. I have a big head and a bun isnt flattering at all on me...lol. I have to have something framing my face, so my styles lately are braidouts and roller sets and wraps and my own hair in ponytails with bangs out in the front. If I can find a way to make my bun look better(accessories, etc.) I might give it another go but I really hate my hair up unless I have a ponytail piece that frames my face, and I got really bored with that after a year. Plus Ive started to like my hair for the 1st time in my life so its hard to go back to fake hair...lol.

Im starting nursing school in the fall so that may be the easiest and best thing for my hair to resort back to. fake ponytail here I come, AGAIN.

Hey there,

When I first joined the forum I was experiencing breakage... I could see the little hairs on my shoulders and back when I wore my hair down... But I think that because I'm taking better care of my hair now (always keeping my hair moisturized, not using curling irons/blow driers, doing deep conditioners & (mild) protein treatments weekly, I have virtually eliminated my breakage problems!!

Now I may see a few hairs on my clothes now & then but NOTHING like how it used to be!!

For me I stop "over" conditioning my hair. When it was "over" conditioned true it was very soft but would snap as soon as my clothes came up against it.

Now I wash twice, once with a shampoo that has Sodium Laural Sulfate, the the second wash I use CON shampoo (which is no more then a conditioning wash itself). After that I usually don't use a separate conditioner. I simply saturate my hair w/hair lotion while it is still wet, In that way my hair is conditioned.

However once a month I will use Revlon's Normalizing Rinse to balance my hair's ph and put back any elasticty I've lost. After that I use a deep conditioner with a plastic cap.

I think it is also possible that some people just aren't as susceptible to breakage from regular everyday friction as others.

I know mine isn't. It can take that - but oil or grease it up too much and it's snapping off everywhere...

Same here. I used to see broken hairs on my clothing but That's been pretty much eliminated with lots of moisture. I've been wearing my hair in braidouts for the last few weeks, in part because I'm sick of buns and in part because I'm 10 weeks post relaxer. So far so good.
