Light hold gels for type 4 hair

I was wondering what are we using ladies?
I have yet to try the aloe gel I bought for twist outs because I am leery of using any kind of gel in my hair, it seems to cause a spiderweb effect. So what gels have you been getting good results with thus far and what are the worst gels for your hair?

I don't use gel often, but when I do, I just use plain ol' green Eco Styler. I put a little on my edges and use a scarf over it. I also use Curls Control Paste (smells so yummy).

See, but it is still rare and it isn't applied to the full length either. I am beginning to think that gel is just a problematic proposition for type 4 hair. I loved the smell of curls control paste too, but it left my hair so hard!

DoDo, no I have never put gel all over my hair. I don't do wash n goes and don't like the prospect of gel everywhere. I do like a little in my bangs for this look sometimes.

I don't think gel should be an all the time thing.

IC olive oil gel or aloe vera gel work best for me.

I usually use the IC for my flat twist updos. And the aloe vera for my flat twist outs. I use a light butter or pomade and a dime size amt of gel. I do abt 10 to 14 flat twists.

I use the Eco gel in pink- it has a light hold. I use it twice a week to style my hair into braids or twists. It just helps hold my hair in the style longer and for some unknown reason it aides in detangling my hair.

I also like the miss Jessie's pillow soft curls gel as well.

I've used the ORS Twist & Lock Gel, Jamaican Mango & Lime Locking Gel, aloe vera gel, and Curly Kinks Coil Jam that I can remember. Argan & Olive Oil EcoStyler gels are my staples, but they aren't light hold.

With any gel sealing with oil helps to kill the crunchiness in my hair, but it also diminishes some of the holding power.

Also, using ceramide rich oils helps me with spiderweb-esque tangles; if I keep my hair cuticle flat the matting subsides.

Thanks for the tip! I think that is true my hair lays down, when I am using grapeseed oil. I am going to have to reintroduce it !

afroveda whipped jelly when its on sale for 30% or more off.... otherwise i use fantasia ic gel with sparklelites. i use gel all over for my styling process ( twist outs & twists) and always use a leave-in underneath. I have never had this spiderweb tangling that you speak of.

The best gel I've used is the aloe Vera that's advertised as body gel. Great hold and definition with no flakes.

I use pink ecostyler for buns. I tried to use green and it was too hard. For wash and gos, I use Kinky Curly.

How in gods green are you getting any hold from AV or KC? I'm 4a3c4b and all my curls laugh at anything but EcoStyler. The key is to use a no or low glycerine moisturizer, with added leave in oil.

Simply_elle I can't speak for anyone else, but I can only use KC for my wash n gos. I don't need a lot of hold for those, just enough to keep them from tangling. It does that, and it's heavy enough to give them hang time. I'm not sure why it works, but it does and it is the only thing I've found so far that works.

I know of a light gel that's all natural. It doesn't leave my hair crunchy and it smells so good. It's called Hold Me. It's made by YHYC. They have a shop on Etsy.

My hair hates gel. If you really want the truth, I get better definition from protein and cones.

You may be more interested in a wrapping foam. SM's gave me a vey shiny, soft hold. Its a keeper

Eco styler olive oil or Aragan oil gel! The green or yellow one. My hair loves this gel!!! Put it on and tie a scarf on for about 20 minutes or more

Herbal essences set me up gel is awesome. Provides a nice hold and the hair is still soft. I'm not a fan of ecostyler it's too thick IMO.

Kiss my face upper management gel was a god send when I was natural. It was a soft hold but lasted. It elongated my curls while defining them. My hair was soft and natural looking.
