i think i'm about ready to start my own fotki

I transitioned for a few days short of 10 months.

Commentary first...the most growth I have (middle of head) is about 4 1/2 inches (my front and nape are much shorter--my nape is about 3, and it used to be bald!) If I had went for a few more weeks, I would've had five. I am VER5Y happy about how fast my hair grew and I hope to keep it up!

My first length goal is not to lose any :lachen:

Once I learn to care for it better (it was so dry by the end of today in this horrible, dry, virginia winter--i'm going to need to up my moisturizer), i'll start getting goals

I was going to transition indefinitely, but 2006 was a bad year. I decided to start 2007 all new, and decided my hair was a part of that process. i cut off some stragly ends that made it through in the pictures right after i took 'em. eventually i'll go to my hair dresser and let her take off any bits and pieces left.

I haven't told my mother. She's going to flip. I'm 21 and still her baby!

I found this board by sheer accident. Someone had started a thread on another (mostly white) board about boards that get more traffic than that particular board. One black board friend of mine mentioned some hair care boards. I sent her a message, she sent me here...and that was almost a year ago this May! I didn't even know what natural was--or I take that back. Momma always called it nappy :lachen: I guess I'm proud to be nappy!

I was so unsure after I chopped the first side--I kept thinking...what have I done?! But now, I LOVE it. It's not long enough for a low puff, but definitely long enough for some fun styles. And I can't wait to see how it grows!

I can't keep my hands out of them. The ends are starting to curl up too, which makes it even more fun.

You got amazing growth for 10 months. WOW

What were you using and/or taking?

And you're right the textures seem completely different, but both make up a head of gorgeous hair.

Lovely!:)

Congrats. Your hair is really nice. It looks soft too. Don't worry you will find a moisturizing product that works for your hair by trial and error. :)

Congrats on the BC!!!

@Jadedfarie- where are the pics? I've been following (stalking) your fotki girl waiting on you to make the next move. (nevermind, I see I have to wait until after the Hide your Hair challenge)

I am also waiting for those pics...lol

I think your hair looks great. What types of styles will you be wearing? I am also considering a BC, but since I work in an office I don't want to feel even more of an outcast than I already do (I'm the only black girl..yipee). But...good job brave woman!! :-)

Thanks so much everyone. I love my hair :)

Nothing out of the ordinary. I'm probably an oddball on this board; I wash (with shampoo) nearly everyday. I did CO washes for a long time too--daily. I drink a lot of water, but I always have. I also wash at night, and sleep on a wet head of hair. My hair is usually still wet when I wake up, and doesn't dry out until late in the day, but the time I'm ready to wash again (though it's drying out a lot quicker now that it's all natural). I use cantu shea butter to get it to lie down, and one of my favorite products that also provides moisture is liquid hair mayo. I think Africa's Best makes it. I also love the Aussie line of products. I clairify once a week, and that's the only time I use expensive shampoos--like my Nexxus. If I don't clairify, I just use my Suave/Cream of Nature Products. I also don't cover my head at night.

I seriously follow every rule most people try to avoid :p But it works for me, so I don't plan to change anything.

As far as styles go, I'm still trying out different things with my length, seeing what works, but I'm wearing several puffs right now or just a fro!
