I know that for most of us achieving a certain length that we thought we couldn't reach is a big deal . Big Big Deal

But would your forsake the health of your hair for it?

Like the main reason I am about to cut my hair is I don't think it looks healthy enough , and I realize that I'm not gonna have super mega growth due to the fact that Im NEVER going to stop using direct heat (Im also quite a hair-fectionist .. unrealisitic at times  ), so i will always have split ends that need to be cut. And I do believe I will reach my goal, it just wont be in 4 months lol ..

Would you allow yourself to lose length in the long run by keeping thin, split broken ends? Or just suck it up to look hot LOL

I feel your pain...

I have about 60% texlaxed hair and the other is frizzy bone strait ends. I can see thru them. So I have resorted to keeping my hair pinned up, that way I stay away from the scissors.:wallbash:

I will take pic in March to see where I am, if I see no big improvement then I am going to cut it off.

I'll take both, thanks. :)

But, seriously...I am not a trimming fanatic. I haven't trimmed my hair since 2005 when I did the big chop and I don't plan on trimming it soon. I don't care about uneven ends because I never straighten my hair and usually wear it up.

I would trim for real damage, though. This is one of the reasons I did the big chop earlier than I planned. I was worried about breakage and the health of my hair.

In general, I would try every possible other thing before cutting.

I'd like to see my hair reach BSL, but right now I'm more focused on making it healthier and thicker at its current shoulder-length. Healthy hair = longer hair IMHO.

Health is more important. My hair doesn't need to be even in length, but long hair with thin, see-through ends is not what I want at all. That's why I like to seek and destroy and individual splits before everything gets a mess

Cutting 1/8 inch or less off the ends. I don't need trims b/c I do this, and my ends get thicker and thicker (also due to Vatika oil and protective styling).

I'll add this to the rest of the hair jargon I'm not familiar with. When you said 'dusting', I thought you were sprinkling some kind of hair talc in your hair...LOL.

Health all the way!!! That is why I bc early even though I hate short hair on me. I used to hold on to every raggedy end just to keep length now I could care less as long as it looks healthy.

I'd rather have healthy hair, but it's frustrating because I just got a touch-up on Saturday and ANOTHER trim. The good news is that my hair is finally becoming thicker, but it seems like I lost all of the growth I obtained after my last touch-up. I'll update with pics after I get some batteries for my camera.

 I'm with you Cichelle!
I think it all depends on how you wear your hair. I think if you're gonna wear your hair down all the time, then you really should have nice looking ends. On the other hand, if you wear your hair in a bun, or pinned up most of the time, I don't really think your ends are a big deal. Personally, I like my ends to look good, so I guess my answer is... health over length.

health. this is the reason i am pushing my goal for armpit to 2009. i am finally near shoulder length but my ends are sooooooooo thin. I refuse to keep those ugly ends just for the sake of length. i dont like short hair on me but for the sake of healthy hair, I rather stay the length I am at. Those ends have got to go. No if ands, or buts about it!:nono:

Right now just give me thick even ends and I'll be VERY happy.

ok now that i think about it maybe both. I plan on getting rid of the thin ends by trimming gradually to preserve my length. I dont want to do a big chop.

It depends on how healthy and how short. I'm not going from midback to Halle Berry length b/c my hair is somewhat unhealthy. I honestly believe that some health issues can be fixed w/conditioning treatments and a rinse. :yep: But, irreparable dry, frizzy, brittle ends (I'm talking the bottom 4 or 5 inches) of waist length hair can get a trim... Maybe... :look:  I love length! I'll take both...

HEALTH I am currently trying to fast-forward my growth because I had some stress-induced breakage this summer. However, I know that I will have to get a major cut (not a trim) to lose a few nasty ends and to have my hair at a reasonably even length (the right side broke off so it's much much much shorter than the left and that looks jacked up). But, I am trying to wait so I won't have looked scalped to get an even cut.

Length, then health...i just never believed my hair could grow, and even now, i look at it and think, it cant possibly grow longer...
When it gets to APl, i will be confident enough in my hair growth to start severe trimming.
This being said, if i found split ends i'd be doing a trim. SHARPISH!
But for now, this girl is hanging on to her raggedy ass ends:look:

I totally understand where you're coming from :yep:

ETA: I understand b/c for awhile my ends looked raggedy, even though they really weren't. My hair just grows in jagged looking. So I let it grow to a certain point, then resumed my frequent dusting (once every 1-2 months). Now my ends look better, and I am still acquiring length. But ends that are truly "tow up" need to go :nono:

Length and health. If my ends are damaged, I'd try to nurse them back to health with some oils and DC before I trim. I'm not very scissor happy at all. After long stretching and just before my retouch my ends can look really thin because of all my ng but after my retouch they are fine because they are not damaged. That's why I leave the salon first, do my own ends check and then decide if I need a trim. I don't mind, I can make an appointment for the next day for a trim if needed.

Definitely health over length. Thin, scraggly ends are not cute and I would never hold on to them so my hair can appear to be long.:nono:

Getting rid of the blowdryer and opting for indirect heat made my thin, scraggly ends a thing of the past.:yep: Now I can retain more length because I dont have to trim those fried ends off.

Health first - always. Ragged ends just look nasty. There are so many ways that one can maintain the health of hair which leads directly to retaining length. Nasty ends are going to break anyway why keep them?

Most definately health :yep:

I remember a long time ago when I was younger, I used to literally dream of having long hair (I've never been past SL) I saw this chick with BSL hair, and a lot of it (about 6 inches) was see through, split ends. I was thinking ''I want long hair, but NOT if it looks like that!'' She knew dang well she needed a serious cut, cause her hair looked so raggedy.

This is about where Im at now
