Let's talk about grease

Great thread!!! I was wondering if any ladies here were still using 'old school' methods for haircare... I have a couple of grease products that I love-

APB scalp and hair treat
Herbal Grow Coconut grease

I want to pick up some Liv... Ya'll remember that?!

Ooooooo I had to come out of lurk mode for this one! Liv smelled so good and made my hair super soft shiny and greasy lol...

That and Satin Magic...I wonder if they still make that.

Dax (green) is good for the ends. It's one of my permanent staples, and the price is very reasonable.

The dr miracles medicated grease...that stuff was skrong and had the nerve to stank but that tingle felt so good on my scalp...only stopped using it becaus the smell was to much

another nature's blessing user here. i use it to seal my hair after applying a leave in and moisturizer. i also use to lightly massage my scalp.

I greased my hair this morning. It's going to be a great day for moisture retention.

I took out my nightly bun, doused it in EVCO, then sprayed water along the length with a spray bottle.

Finally, I greased it up, starting from the ends with my blue magic coconut oil grease, and bunned it up for the day. Any fly aways, I took care of gently with a boar bristle brush.

On Friday I went to buy some larger flexi rods and came upon Grandma Wilkie's Old Fashioned Super Gro. It was only $5, the ingredients look great, and I could use something to help these edges continue to grow in.

Well, I love it! And at 1/4 the price of Natural Oasis, I'm sold. My only concerrn is that I think it's being discontinued. I'm going to do a haul later today just in case.

Ingredients: Petrolatum, castor oil, jojoba oil, aloe vera [oil], almond oil, lecithin oil, honey, lemon oil, coconut oil, vitamin A,D, E, sage, alfalfa, comfrey, horsetail, nettle, indian hemp, rosemary, yarrow, peach [oil], walnut [oil], chamomile, chaparral, burdock.

Worse come to worse, and it is discontinued I think that I could make this myself. I don't even need gel for my edges when I use this and bun.

Plan on getting some sulphur 8 for my scalp but will add a fragrance oil to it because that stuff is skrong!

What grease are you using?
I am currently using Dax Pomade. In the past, I have used Blue Magic, Proclaim Bergamot, and Ultra Sheen Creme Satin Pres. I am also using a new product called Blue Magic Olive Oil Leave-in Conditioner which is more of a creamy texture rather than a thick substance, so not sure if this would be considered a grease (probably is since it has those common grease ingredients in it.

What's in it? Why do you use it?
Lanolin - Enhances moisture retention resulting in softer, smoother hair.
Mineral Oil - Helps minimize frizz , enhance curl and add shine.
Coconut Oil - Excellent natural conditioner that helps with hair growth and adds shine.
Olive Oil - Helps enhance the health and vitality of your hair. Natural hair conditioner. Helps to make your hair softer and more manageable.
Castor Oil - Natural conditioner contains Omega-9 fatty acids that help nourish hair and prevent dryness.

How are you using it?
I am currently using it on damp/dry hair for braidouts and flexirod/permrod sets. It also works well for wash n go's on my hair as well. Pretty much any style.

I love Allways Natures Super Grow grease. I always get great growth with it and it has some great ingredients. I'll try and post them when I get to a computer.
Good ol Sulphur 8 has also been a staple for me lately because my scalp has been ridiculous lately. This is the only thing that helps the itching and flaking.

Grease is simplest anti humectant. Been using it when my roller sets start to poof. Add the tiniest grease grease, roll or wrap overnight. Straight again for a few more days

I stopped using grease when I first went natural, but then I started using it again when I asked my grandmother what her regimen was when she was my age (she had butt length hair back then, she shaved it all off when she reached her 60's) Turns out all she ever used was laundry detergent for her hair and petroleum jelly to seal her bun. Not hopping on the laundry detergent train just yet.

Btw, I washed and greased the length going on 3 days tomorrow. It's still perfectly moisture balanced and detangled. Sporting a braid out on 4c..

I love Grandma regimens, they were so simple! Back in the day, her laundry detergent was probably a lot more like soap than the kind that we use today.

ETA: I got my hair trimmed today and I allowed the stylist to flat iron my hair on a low setting. My hair looked amazing...for five minutes. I walked outside and it turned into a cloud. Dang humidity.

I got in the house, added some Grandma Wilkie's and my hair is smooth again.

krissyhair, are you using a clarifying shampoo? My shampoo of choice is typically a poo bar and no, those moisture bars do not get the grease out.

I don't have a shampoo labeled clarifying, but the one I used recently has sulfates, and it's for oily scalp & dry hair.

I love Design Essentials Herbal Complex 4. It smells great, it's light and soothes my scalp and keeps my ends soft and from drying out. Here are the ingredients below:

The only reason I use grease is to seal my ends. I use plain ole white petroleum jelly. Nothing fancy. It is great for sealing and it doesn't change the smell of my hair.

I've been looking for other women who use grease and have long hair. Well, all five of the long haired ladies I know IRL still seal with grease (at least BSL), and then I found this Q&A video on YT. This lady's TBL hair is amazing.
