...finally introduce myself to everyone. I've been lurking, stalking (to-may-to, to-mA-to) for a couple of months now just trying to soak up all of this knowledge.
I'm T from the widely publicized city of Detroit. I am a 4a/3b natural. Let me not deceive you, that's a protective style a.k.a. a weave in my avi, I have shoulder length hair. My hair was that long about this time last year but I truly did NOT know how to care for natural hair so as a result I had (I say had but I'm still in therapy over it) to get it cut off because it apparently was too damaged to repair.....or she was just too scissor happy and unwilling to put the time and care in to help me repair it........but I digress (relax relate release). Anywhoo, I guess just became au naturale by chance. I mean I wish I had a more thrilling story to tell but I simply wanted to grow out of my perm so I started to get weaves - which I now know as a protective style - about 4 years ago. My hair grew and grew and grew but I exploited and exploited and exploited it to no end. Well to AN end b/c now I know better so I do better.
I broke up (not literally) with hairdresser when I noticed how she styled the lady's hair in the chair before me the last time I was there. The lady CLEARLY did not need a trim, her ends were blunt and you could tell that she truly did have a healthy head of hair. But low and behold, the scissors appear and hair begins to hit the floor and that was ENOUGH for me. So I've been taking care of my hair ever since June/July. I've seen some growth since then (though I have not blow-dried it or flat ironed it, just wet stretched) but more importantly I see thickness which to me is the beginning of health and length. My last weave was in November '07 and I will get another one before I go to Memphis in November again. In the meantime, I wear my hair cornrowed under a wig Mon-Thur and in a braid / twist out Fri - Sun. I still consider myself new and I'm just amazed at all of this information that I'm gaining. I happened to find out about LHCF b/c I was doing a product review search on CD. I NEVER in my life imagined that information like this existed and was organized and methodical ...it's like a MOVEMENT or something. If so, then count me in the struggle and let's fight on!
I don't have a digital camera (it's on my Christmas list) so I have to take pics on my Blackberry and e-mail them to myself so I can post and I must take some time to do that. That's my story in the reader's digest version but I'm sure I'll reveal more as time goes on. I just can't think of anything else to tell you at the moment but if there's something you'd like to now, I'll discuss. Maybe. *teehee*
