Length check: What point of your head?

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum! I have yet to post anything in the hair forum. Anyway..I wanted to know at what point of your head do you do length check? Is it by your ear..the top of your head..your nap? And when can you claim a length? Is it when the top of your hair reaches APL..you can claim it? It's all so confusing..can someone break it down?

I may not length check they way most people do I measure the hair on my head with my ruler or tape. I know that my hair is 8.5 inches long all over but the back of my hair is apl but I don't claim full apl because the rest of my reaches it.

Hello and welcome.

Me personally, since i have layers i use the back of my hair (above the nape).

I do my length checks from the hair at my nape. My hair is most likely naturally going to grow in layers or a V so whatever length the back of my head is at is what I claim.

I use the crown, because if the hair at my nape hits a certain point and my crown is not there yet, it looks weird to me and I end up trimming the back so the crown can catch up anyway. I have fine hair so I want my hair to mostly be the same length for a full look.

I use mainly the back above the nape and the sides as my personal measure. I don't want to wait for my crown to catch up, cause I plan to get layers cut in once I get to goal anyway :yep:

I never thought about starting at the nape, my sides are always a little shorter so it makes sense to start at he nape where my hair is the same length all over. This is why I am lurking the board all day, as a newbie I learn something new everyday!

I usually use the back of my hair. Even though its the shortest part now I still use it. I do want a blunt /u-shaped cut as it gets longer though. Then I'll just use the longest point.

Welcome, newbie! I use my nape and edges. I claim a length when my hair falls there comfortably without any pulling, tilting, leaning, etc
