Right after you relax what kind of conditioner do you use before the neutizalizater. In LondonDiva's tutorial she says that she relaxs before neutizating but I'm not sure what kind of conditioner to use.

After after shampooing what is the best type of conditioner to use before styling.

I used to self relax but don't anymore. My hair is too long.
But I would be cautious of trying to relax, condition then neutralize. I would save that for the professional. But if you have a box perm, please follow the directions there. I would hate for you to loose any locks that you have aquired. I would use a deep conditoner and use a hot oil treatment with it and then under the hooded dryer with a cap for 20 mins . BUT AFTER it was neutralized.

I've read here and in hair books that it's possible to condition before the neutralizer but I just want the lye washed out then I {beautician} use KUZ. I am just not comfortable doing the conditioner first.

I use the conditioner in the same product line as the relaxer. Right now it is Silk Elements Luxury Moisturizing Conditioner.

I learned this trick in hair school and have been doing this for years with no problems. Remember to read the directions on the relaxer and the conditioner every time because sometimes things change. Rinse the relaxer out completely. Do not manipulate the hair because it is extremely fragile and do not use heat. You should not lose hair if done correctly.

Right, I relax, neutralize and then deep condition. You should neutralize after you rinse the relaxer out to bring the ph balance back down to normal and to stop the perm from continuing to process your hair and after that you can use the conditioner that comes with the perm kit and then deep condition with aphoghee 2 min keratin for 30 minutes under a hood dryer or heating cap.HTH

I relax with Affirm and condition with Affirm® 5 in 1 Reconstuctor For Damaged or Fine, Limp Hair, this stuff gives great slip too.

Although the relaxer I did 2 days ago I skipped this step as I had ran out. But my hair is fine though.

Just wanted to say that the protein conditioning step before the neutralizer actually does help bring the pH balance back down to normal :yep: And many relaxers include this reconstructing step. Protein reconstructors and neutralizing poos actually have similar pH's which both act to lower the hair's pH to stop the relaxer gradually. Most of these conditioners/neutralizing poo's have normalizing pH's and are slightly acidic (4-5.5 pH range), so whichever route your choose, there is still an overall neutralizing effect from that original 10-13 ph relaxer process range. The relaxer isn't processing at full strength b/c the reactions can't take place as the pH drops into that range.

Even the initial rinse out of the relaxer with water starts the neutralizing process by modifying/lowering the pH, but water (pH 7) alone only brings the pH from the 10-13 range down to the 8-9 range-- still not safe for the hair which should normally be in the 4-6 range.) This is why you need something more acidic to follow the water rinse out-- the protein conditioner or a neutralizing poo. Neutralizing is all about pH.

I've been doing this since I can remember and love it. I use Aphogee 2 min keratin reconstructor for 5 mins following the water rinse... it has a pH around 5. It not only helps neutralize the hair, but it starts the rebuilding process immediately. My hair always has much more life, fullness, and volume after the relaxer now. I used to get that flat, pasted down fresh relaxer look before-- not anymore! I know alot of people are worried about the relaxer overprocessing the hair, but I have some of the most underprocessed/texlaxed hair out there (on purpse of course) -- no overprocessed hair here:lol: Y'all should try it! It can be safely done, but I'd only try it you have had a good record of success and are pretty comfortable with applying chemicals to your own hair.:D
