Laying on your face

Hi ladies,

Can someone break this down for me??? What does this mean exactly (purpose behind it, the process, etc). Thanks!!

Hey, justicewifey, My pastor uses that term all the time. I believe he is referring to one of the many postures used in prayer referred to in the Bible. I believe David laid on his face all night hoping that God might show mercy to him and Bathsheba's deathly ill baby. It is a prayer posture of ultimate humility and resignation to God's mercy. At times when I have been greatly burdened abt a life situation I might lie down or pray directly on the floor on my stomach face toward the ground. God has heard and answered many of these situations which threatened to undo me. One great way to show God just how serious you are abt something.;)

Wow thank you Shalita for breaking this down for me. I figured it had something to do with posture but I didn't understand this versus getting down on your knees. But then I also hear about praying in the closet so I believe this may all have to do with each other in some way. Thank you again for the clarification ;)

never heard of it.
Where did you hear this?

Hi Cutiebe2,

I would hear this mentioned on a few gospel songs and random talks with people but never stopped to ask. I always figured it just meant another way to talk to God but. My pastor mentioned it the other week and it made me wonder if there's certain protocol when to do this so I thought I'd ask.
