Ladies with low density

Any tips on how you get your hair to look fuller? Coz seriously, sometimes I feel half bald.

Lol, I'm right there with you. For the most part when I want a full look I blowdry my hair. I also separate my hair as much as possible when I do braidouts and twistouts. I've been using cassia lately as well and it seems to be helping.

I blowdry rather than flat iron. My hair looks so pitiful when flat ironed. I also airdry most of the time and do braidouts to give my hair a fuller appearance.

I also use a lot of products that contain panthenol which penetrates the strands and can thicken up to 10%. Shescentit is great for this.

Avoid creamy leave ins and opt for spray leave ins instead. I like my hair to look as full as possible and I use a spray leave in followed by a nickel size amount of serum prior to blow drying. If I flat iron ill use a a few sprays of a weightless heat protectant like nioxin thermal bliss.

Wet roller sets and wash n gos. That's all I can do. Before I found LHCF I used to use volumizing products. Bad idea. While it made my hair appear fuller, it also chewed it up. I've been tempted to try Shea Moisture's volumizing line but haven't yet :-/

Braid outs are my best bet. Nothing really makes me able to fake thick hair; but I've never heat styles. I've had to embrace my hair as is and hopefully as it gets longer, curly out styles will add visual weight and volume.

I think styles that have some texture are best, twist outs, braidouts, rollersets, and waves. Flat, straight hair tends to emphasize the lack of density.

I don't know if my hair is low density but it always feels like that to me. Of course I can just be hair anarexic.

To make my hair fuller I try to get as much lift in the crown section either by applying less product, stretching it upward or pineappling that section in a forward motion.

My hair looks pretty good in it's natural state but when I straighten it looks thin to me. I don't like it and will usually do a braid out most of the time to add volume. When I reach my goal of wl I will take a break on growing and thicken it up till its full wl.

I usually blow it dry on cool and use 1 pass of the curling iron when straightening.

What are some ways to determine if your hair is low density. I don't really see my scalp when my hair is clean and dry, but I still feel that I have low density. My hair lacks volume and is always flat; even with curly styles. I live for big hair!

DominicanBrazilian82, I'll try to find my camera cable in a lil bit. I have a pic of my head in a flexi rod set. You can tell from looking at my parts that I'm low density. The parts are wide. mshoneyfly, posted a similar photo in the original fine hair thread recently.

Also, I'll try to find directions for the pony tail test.

You could try a "fall" or half-wig to add more hair to make it look fuller. My cousins added clip-in combs to single hair weave pieces and will add one or two at times to given them a thicker look. Youtube could probably show you how to do it. They sometimes use the single pieces to add highlights to their hair w/o having to use chemicals.

MileHighDiva this is my hair right after a roller set... In regards to my parts for flexis, they tend to be really big, but small amount of hair. I have to comb out flexi sets to get fullness. But my roller sets are always vavavroom...



But after a day and a little oil to keep the humidity out, my hair flattens...

DominicanBrazilian82, I can't find my cable, but I'll take some pics on my phone. My parts are wide and I have low density hair, but you would never know because I know how to fake the funk via styling, so my hair looks denser than it actually is. BRB

I just answered this question the other day in the fine hair thread. I posted a close up pic of my NG by parting my hair in one of my thickest areas. Just put the camera up close like a few inches away. My hair is fine and low density. You can see how my part looks really wide.

Ok MileHighDiva mshoneyfly I see what you mean, but I'm not sure if when parted my hair shows so much scalp. I will take a closer look when I do my roller set tonight. I will also take a few pics to show to get better clarification.

Seamonster, will you give DB82 the directions for the the ponytail density test? I forgot the measurements for the circumference that indicates low, med, and high density hair. I remember you did it in a previous post, but I don't recall the thread, or how long ago it was. TIA
