Ladies who use Aveda....

I need you guys to tell me if it really is worth the money. I keep bouncing around from cheap product to cheap product, and though it hasn't hurt my hair, I think that my hair would do a lot better if I had some staple poos/conditioners. I go to the website all the time, and I've been saving my money for a couple of weeks and I'm thinking of purchasing the Damage Remedy line at the end of this month.

Now some of you guys may know I'm thrifty as heck (not cheap, dammit!) and hate spending money, especailly on stuff that isn't worth it. So, is Aveda worth it to you guys who use it?

I will tell you that Damage Remedy is the best purchase I've made. I must admit that I cringe at the register, but I know that it's made my hair turn around. The only thing I don't think is really worth purchasing is the 1st conditioner (there are 2), I use the last one as a deep conditioner.

And the great thing about Aveda, if it doesn't work for you, you can return it with no problem :)

Yes, Brezzy it's worth the money, during the six months that I used it my hair never looked better, and split ends, well, I had NONE.

I'll be purchasing some more in the coming weeks.

I think that Aveda DR is worth the money. I've been using it since April and alternating with Elucence. My hair has never been healthier. I am thinking about only purchasing the shampoo next time and maybe the the treatment. I agree with JLove74 that the regular conditioner isn't all that. I have others that can be used to replace it. The price is expensive, but considering that I purchased it in April and it still isn't gone, makes up for the price. However, I do alternate with Elucence so that may be why it's not all used up yet. I normally use Aveda when I want to wear my hair straight (for the swang) and use Elucence when rollersetting. I also always start off with the Elucence clarifying shampoo following up with Aveda DR shampoo or Elucence (depending on if I'm wearing hair straight or curly). I am going to try the Aveda with rollersetting and see how I like it.

Thanks guys. So is the general consensus that I could easily replace the regular condish with a cheaper brand and just purchase the shampoo and treatment? Also, what sizes are you guys purchasing?

I've never used another conditioner in place of the other. I just wash and deep condition. I'm purchased the largest one (forgot the size).

I have been using the aveda damage remedy shampoo as well. Although it doesnt give much for slip (my Aubrey Organics conditioner handles that) I like the ingredients and the results. Like someone mentioned, you can bring it back if you dont like it. I think someone was selling some on the product exchange board too. It might be a cheaper alternative.

Breezy, I'm glad you started this thread because I've been wondering about it, too...stalking it on eBay because I don't know where I could get it locally and I'm broke! But I don't want my hair to be broke because I am...:look:

I have used Aveda's Damage Remedy conditioner and reconstructor for about a year now and I love it. Aveda makes good products that work well, so I do believe that it is worth the money.

I got a sample of the reconstructor when I bought my conditioner. You should ask it they have samples of the Damage Remedy, that way you only have to purchase one of the products instead of buying the whole line just try it out.

Man, now y'all got me feeling greedy, wanting to buy it today! I had a feeling their stuff was good, my mom uses some skincare stuff by Aveda and people always think she's my sister.

Oh, and I've been stalking ebay, too!

I am so supossed to be in class but I saw this post and I couldn't leave you hanging.

IMHO the only thing that is worth Aveda's high prices is the Beautifying Composition oil, The Aveda DR set (mostly the conditioner) and, the Aveda Brilliant serum. Nto sayign the rest of the stuff is cheap, it's that it either had too much protein or my hair didn't like it. All of the stuff that I have tried was super concentrated, so you def. will be getting your money's worth.

Girl every Aveda that I went to was willing to give FREE samples. Go in there and get your free sample on. You may have to bring your own containers cause a lot of times they run out. They have those bottles sitting there labled "sample" so you can just go in there and do yo thang. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

ETA: Okay, I am now 30 minutes lat eto class. LOL

Breezy, I took mkstar's advice and purchased the Aveda Deep Penetrating Hair Revitalizer for deep conditioning. She was right it worked like a charm on my natural hair, BUT I relaxed my hair in May 2006. I used it on the night before last on my seven week post hair and we didn't get along as well:confused:. Although I am 4b/a and it has been seven weeks, I normally do not have to fight my hair as much. If I were you, I would buy the smaller size of Damage Remedy to make sure before investing a large amount of money in it.

I also use their color shampoos (Clove, Madder Root, or Black Malva). If you use them continously you will see a slight difference in your hair. Aveda representatives tried to argue me down about this, but I used it continuously one year and my stylist told me that she loved my color.

I love Aveda Elixir. It's a great slippery leave in with a woodsy scent.

The Sap Moss line is great. I really like the way the products smell and the shampoo is gentle and moistrizing.

I also love the Deep Penetrating Revitalizer. I don't use it often because my hair is not in love with that much protein, but it does it's job well.

I think I've tried almost everything in Aveda  But these are things I think are worth trying:

- Elixir (leave-in): Always leaves my hair soft and manageable.
- Deep Penetrating Hair Revitalizer: SUPER thick conditioner. I  the way it makes my hair feel and how it feels while it's on my hair.
- Rosemary Mint Conditioner: my SO uses this on his hair so I use it from time to time and I like the effects. I have to leave it on a while to really get the benefits but it's good. I used it to take down 3 month old braidlocs and it helped me save a lot of hair.
- Sap Moss shampoo & Sap Moss Nourishing Concentrate: super moisturized and soft hair

The next thing I'm going to try from them is the Cherry Almond Bark conditioner since i'm low cone and it's cone free. the DPHR has cones so I can't use it as often.

But anyway, IMO the only one truly worth the price for me is the DPHR which is why that's all I really buy from Aveda. I've found other cheaper stuff that works just as well as if not better than most of their stuff.

I love my sap moss....I think the dr set will be my next purchase. The pre poo for the sap moss is great also.

Mizani Mami,
Were you talking about the intensive DC or just the regular one in the set?

The one that comes in that set, like in my avatar. But personally I lIke the Color Conserve Deep Treatment better than this one. And the Aveda DR conditioner better than them both.
