Ladies who have weaved...is glue really that bad??

I recently took out my first weave about a month ago and it was a partial-sew in. It was great! Looked great and my hair grew a lot, especially in the cornrowed areas. Decided when I wanted to weave again I would always do sew-in's. I've heard TERRIBLE:nono::nono: things about glue, that it is very damaging etc, etc.

My question is, is glue damaging only if you do it often?? Like is it a cumulative effect? I want to weave again, and want to try glue this time, but I really only want it for this weekend (live in D.C. and lots of parties for inauguration..he he:yawn::drunk:). It will be a lot cheaper to get glue, and it makes since to me because I only really want it for a week. After the "festivities" though, I would take it out, because I'm EXTREMELY obsessed with gaining hair health right now, and I'm washing and DCing 3x a week and bunning.

So question is: Will one glue-in, left in for about a week, be really damaging for my finally growing and getting healthier by the day hair??? Please weigh in ladies that have glued or know "gluers"..lol

It can be really damaging, even if you do it once. Mainly because you always run the risk of ripping your hair out along with the glue. Also, I've always found it really hard to get the glue out (the black gross kind).

This thread has some weave tips and someone mentioned a different type of glue in it as well:

You can do it only for the week but I wouldn't recommend it. If you do, be really really careful when taking it out. Don't tug on it or rip it out. And you still may lose some hair due to the glue, and not just shedding.

I've heard some bad stuff about glue. I used it a couple of times years ago and I wasn't taking care of my hair anyway so I don't know if it caused damage.:eek2:

IF I were you I would read about Pepper's quick weave. Link below... I think this is a beautiful solution and it looks easy. This should not damage your hair if done right and by all means use glue remover where needed...

Glue is evil. Sometimes removal of a track or two is drama free but for the most part removing bonded hair is nasty. Tape is much better. MUCH better. Just use a glycerin based remover and the tracks slide right on out.

glue was very damaging for me esp. on my sides and my nape. when I used glue I had no knowledge about hair care and ended up causing more damage b/c I didn't have the patience or the know how to properly remove it. I wouldn't recommend it for long-term or short-term.

I WISH I still had this picture I would show you what glue did to my hair. Sure it was years and years of wearing glue. Let me give you a visual...My friends call it my crackhead picture...my hair was about an inch long, sticking up and I was on my bed stuffing a Subway sandwich down my throat.

Don't do it. It's not worth it.

If its just for short -term, why not just buy a nice looking Wig? This seems like a better option IMO.

no matter the length of time I think glue will damage your hair. You will automaticly run the risk of pulling out strands of hair, an allergic reaction, and or in appropriate removal of the glue.

I would say go with a half wig in a stye that you like that blends with your texture.

Yes it is damaging. I think it mostly depends on how you take it out and how long you keep it in. But just imagine that black stuff on your scalp ewwww. It is so hard to wash it out and to get it out of your hair. Ive never had good experiences with having weaves glued in. And i stayed as far away from glue in weaves. The only ones that I did do and keep for a little while was the quick weaves(but that was applied with a stocking cap--2 i believe and then the weave was glued on it.)

I'm gonna chime in and say, even with proper removal, you're gonna scream at the amount of strands ripped out of your head from the glue. If you're obessesed with hair health, I wouldn't recommend glue at all. Not even a little.

Tape is a better option and the half wigs look great!!!!!

:nono:I used glue in weaves for a long time and let me tell you there is no way that you're going to be able to remove the glue without losing hair. your scalp and tresses will suffer. If you must use glue try the stocking cap or quick weaves and use several stocking caps as your base, it will be alot less damaging that way.

:nono: Please don't use glue... I used to have glue in tracks b/c they were fast and layed really flat for years... and now.... my hair is suffering from it and I'm trying to get it back healthy again... I say if it's only for the weekend.. try a half wig or even clip on hair extensions. There was a thread on here that two posters used hair clips to achive temporary length and thicknesss and it looked great. I beleive one poster said she purchased hers from Sally's.

At one point my edges were completely gone b/c of hair glue...I'm nursing them back to health now but I would not recommend you put it in your hair, it's not worth it...

Guurrrrlllll....Don't do it. The removal is horrible and you will have to scrub your hair so many times to get all the glue residue out. My hair looked a hot mess when I was wearing glue in weaves. It thins your hair out terribly.

I hate glue. I almost cry every time I see it in the BSS. I had a TERRIBLE experience with it. It was really my fault though since I got the extensions (few tracks in the back for length) done at a salon. I had just had my baby so I decided to take the tracks out on my own and thought I did okay with it. I made sure to wash well (or so I thought) afterwards. I went to a different salon a few weeks later only to find out that there was still glue in my head. The stylist was experienced so she got out as much as she could by combing my matted hair carefully for 2 hours! She still had to cut some but not as much as it would have been. I was so angry with myself and so happy the stylist had patience. Needless to say she got a big tip! :)

I was JUST about to post this idea. They have some amazing realistic wigs these days. Plus it's gonna be COLD in the DC area and a wig can help you stay really warm, especially if you put on a few silk scarves underneath (this is what I do and it makes a huge difference).

You can get whatever style, texture, color, length, etc you want, and if you remove the combs and attach with pins you will have zero damage guaranteed.

Not only that, but I'd imagine getting your hurrr did in the DMV is going to be a difficult, pricey and stressful experience, everyone and thier mama wants to look on point for the inauguration. You could pop in the BSS, pick something out and head home... saving you loads of time, effort and money.

I think it's the best way to go.

OMG....WOW....thanks you so mcuh for all the replies! It appears unanimous...glue is a big NO-NO! I really appreciate all your ideas..don't know what I would do without LHCF...prolly be crying over lost hair in a couple of weeks, but I'm definitiely not going to do it now!:nono:

Lol....I'm so sorry, I know it's not funny. But that comment was. Thanks for your story. My friends are big teasers too, so Lord knows they would let me have it if I end up gluing. Thanks to you and others tales I wont! Thanx:yawn:

Hey, I JUST saw this post too, before I came to see the replies to my post. I'm very excited about trying this...I think this may be my perfect solution! Thanks

I think you should just try clip ins.

LOLOLOL...that is too funny.:lachen::lachen: Wig cap probably will keep me warm though. It's RIDICULOUS cold here right now. I'm really feeling these clip in extensions idea though so I think I'm gonna try that..thanks though

Don't do it! It's not the putting in of the hair with the glue - it's the taking out! I used to do it occasionally, every now and then a full head and, um, no! It was not a good look when I had full strands of hair stuck to those tracks, no matter how careful I was taking them out.

I had a friend who had long hair growing up & now wears glue-ins all the time- she wonders why her hair will not grow long again :nono:.
