Ladies that work out

How often do you do ur hair. I mean wash, co-wash and so forth. I work out hard 4 days a week n I am wondering how shoud i take care of my hair. i sweat n my head and I was wondering if I should co-wash or wash more often.

I DC once a week and cowash once a week.

I work out 4-5 times a week.

If you feel like your hair gets dirty/grimey after all those workouts, then maybe you should add another cowash to your reggie. I can't cowash too often because it's damaging to my hair; my hair likes to be left alone. :yep:

I think it's personal preference mixed with what your hair responds to. :)

When I had a relaxer (and a short hair cut), I was working out 3x per week. I sweat so much from my head, I would just come home and rinse the salt out of my scalp and hair, then wrap it for the night with leave in conditioner (of course, I wasn't going anywhere when I got home from the gym, lol).

Now, I seem to sweat even more than I ever did before...looks like somebody poured a cup of water over my head. My hair turns into a poofy mass...so if I end up working out 4x in a week, I end up co-washing 4 times.

I'm starting my workout regimen Monday morning (before work is the only time that I have). By the time I'm done working out I look like I jumped in a pool with my clothes on. One of my worries is that I'll be going to work with wet hair and ya'll know that the snow and bitter cold weather does not mix well with wet hair. As it is, I'll be working out by 5:30 am Monday through Friday so getting up any earlier than that is out of the question. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to protect my wet hair from the cold?

I wash and DC once a week - usually on Sunday. I co-wash probably three times a week, or roughly every other day. I'm in grad school now and have class on Tues & Weds so I usually work out Thurs-Mon. But before I started really paying attention to my hair and co-washing, I would only wash once a week (not saying that's the best option, but that's what I did).

I shampoo and condition once on Wednesday and deep condition on Saturday. I have tried to co-wash mid week, but by that day my hair really does need a good washing. Everytime I revisit co-washing, I realize I need to grab my shampoo, after all.

Wed. and Sat are my most strenuous workout days so it is best to do it on those days.

I admit though – I don’t workout as much as I prefer because of my hair. I would prefer to strenuous workouts on most days of the week, but instead I spend other days just on light strength training, pilates, or walking – all less sweaty workouts.

I co-wash once/week and workout 3-4 days/week. I get quite sweaty when I exercise, but I don't have the desire to wash more often than I do. Anyway, my hair likes low manipulation and is still making progress...I don't think it wants to be bothered more than once/week.:look:

I work out 5days per week, 60 - 90 minutes per day...(sometimes on saturdays, too...).

I am natural, and I sweat a lot, too. But I notice that the sweat is less intensive if I always keep on my silk scarf during the workouts. The scarf, however is usually drenched.:nono: I go through multiple silk scarfs per week....:sad:Because I get up at 4:45am to workout, I just don't have the time to wash every day. Knowing this, I make sure I clarify every single week. Its always my first lather....followed by my moisturizing poo. Which is then followed by my DC's.

My hair/scalp never smells because of the sweat or workouts, and by the time my 1 and 1/2 hour commute is over, my hair/scalp is dry anyway.

This works really well for me, and my hair/scalp has never been healthier. Every one is different, though, so I hope you come up with something that really works for you. Working is a must if you want to stay trim & fit!!!

Hmmm...I like this scarf idea. How do you have your hair under the scarves? Twists? Braids? Loose?

ETA: And CONGRATS on your WW stats in your siggy! :)

I have worked out for years, currently work out 5 days a week including two very sweaty spin classes, and I am still looking for the answer to this question myself...

I have very curly 3c hair. When I was relaxed and had a short bob haircut, I would put my hair in a high ponytail to work out. Afterwards, I would lightly blowdry it :nono:, smoothing the waves at my part with the curling iron :nono: and bump the ends with a curling iron everyday :nono::nono:. This was obviously pre-LHCF and I didn't know any better, and also the reason why I had to trim my ends so often :nono: :nono::nono:.

Since I have gotten to know my curly hair, and become interested in having longer hair, I find maintaining a straight style impossible, so I am texlaxed. Thus far, I have only bunned my hair after working out. To deal with the frizzies and waves at my hairline, I add some oil (sometimes mixed with a dab of gel), brush the hairline smooth, and tie down with a silk or satin scarf, which I keep on in the car until I get to work. This is how I protect my wet hair from the cold if I cowash in the winter as well. :yep:

I am in the process of trying to work out a way to exercise and wear my hair down occasionally. After working out, I think I will oil it lightly, put it in a high ponytail/pincurled bun to keep the ends dry, tie it down tight to smooth the hairline, and finger comb it when I get to work.

I'm having the same issue with the wet head and cold weather. I swim at night at least 3x/week, so I'm constantly washing my hair. If I wash the night before, I wake up with damp hair. So, I usually leave it pulled back and let my hair stay wet for a few more hours. Or, I leave it out and it usually dries in an hour. Either way, my head is wet more than it's dry. :ohwell:
With the cold weather coming, I don't want to get any more colds than I already do.

Co-signing with the bolded and also I work out a minimum of 3 days a week.

I work out five days a week, but I still only wash weekly. Yes, I also sweat terribly in my head during exercise and when I sleep at night.

It's tempting for me to wash more frequently, but the thought of a long detangling session makes me hold off until Sunday when I don't have anything else to do.

I work out fairly regularly and have recently upped my workout to include weights. I usually cowash at least once a week. If I have a really hard workout to the point where I "sweat out" whatever style I had goin on, I cowash and start over. I wash with shampoo only once a week and try to make sure to DC before every shampoo wash. I also wear my hair in a high ponytail or bun. It's gotten harder to wear a ponytail since I am APL now.

I workout twice a week. The first day I come home and wrap my hair back up and its like nothing happened. The night before my next workout, I co-wash and put it in a ponytail. Then after class I do my weekly regimen.

I jog 5k 5 days a week and practice yoga 7 days a week. I sweat the most in my hair and I only wash once a week, Pre-poo, shampoo, dc.

Everyday after exercise I spray Aveda Damage Remedy Spray directly on my scalp in various places and massage it around. This seems to somewhat clean my scalp.

Before I found this product my scalp would get so itchy and I would have to wash more often. The biggest ingredient in the Aveda Damage Remedy spray is Aloe Vera Juice, so that should work just as well if you don't want to spend the money.
