Ladies, I need to vent.......

Some of you already know that I've graduated from cosmetology school a little over a month ago. I’ve been in the salon for a few weeks now and enjoying every bit of it. They’re two other stylists in the salon. They do not speak to me or anything. It's a regular hello and good bye everyday. They haven't even offered some tips on how to stay in this profession. Now this is where the hating starts.....

I was in the salon last night, mind you, I'm still building up my clientele. I was a little bored and asked my 13 year old if she wanted her hair done, she said yes and wanted me to do flexi rods (light blue). So I shampoo her and bring her to my chair and proceeded to do her hair. There are about 3 or 4 clients of the other stylists under the dryers in front of me and all of them were staring at me doing me daughters’ hair like they were all amazed and in aw.

I had about 6 or 7 rods left to complete her entire head and the other stylist stops in between all of the dryers and notices how “her” clients are looking at me and my daughter. She then has the audacity to say “So how many hours did you complete in school, 1200 or 1500?” I looked at her and wanted to choke her:mad: . But I said in a nice way, “I completed the entire 1500 hours”. She then asks me “So when do you go to State Board?” Now, I’m on fire:mad: , now she’s really hating and wants all the clients to know I've just graduated from school. A lot of people don’t like to go to new licensed stylists.:( They always prefer someone who’s been in the game for a minute. But that sure didn’t give her the right to “out me” like that. Just because my set looked good, she didn't have to hate like that in front of the clients. Professionalism went straight out the door when she walked in:confused:

I was so pissed last night that I told my daughter that she may have to finish drying at home, but luckily, I didn’t let her get the best of me. I stuck it out until my daughter was completely dry. I can’t let anyone steal my joy. Even my daugher said "mommy, I was wondering why everyone was staring at me".

Thanks for letting me vent, I’m feeling a little better now.:)

Child Cheese, as my aunt would say, lol. You handled that well I wouldn't let them get you all upset just do what you do best. Once you start mixing up conditioner recipes and using them on your clients hair they'll be begging you for tips.

Ugh!!! I was gettin mad just reading that. What a friggin *****!! Atleast, like u said, u didnt let her get the best of u. But u had every right to get up set u knew what she was trying to do. She got all nervous she was going to lose customers to you cuz ur the **** :) and she's, well, just ****, lol. Stay strong girl and f the haters!! :)

Please don't let the haters get to you. Don't stoop to her level and take it as a compliment. Keep it moving girl and congratulations on your new career.

I wish you the best:D

Girl, let those haters stew in their own juice...they know they're watching a competant, educated stylist in action! Knowing what you know about healthy hair practices, your clientele base is going to grow like mad!
Just keep smiling and show 'em what you can do.

And if the stylists ever pull that "how long have you gone to school" crap with you again, tell them the truth...then add how you're always looking to take additional classes and learn all you can about helping your clients grow long healthy hair.
And say it LOUD. Make sure all the customers hear that, they'll be on you like white on rice!

Good luck!

Im glad that you took the approach that you did. You very well could have been really ugly to her when she called you out like that. But in the end, you ended up being the bigger preson, and you kept it professional as well. She should be happy for you, but she probably feels like she is going to be in competition with you, especially since her clients were admiring the flexi rod set. Ignore ignorance, even though it can be difficult. Congrats on your new profession!!;)

HEY girl congrats on completing cosmo school...
I like to go to new people to do my hair because they use the best products and they are very gentle so just because you are new dont think that lady's client who was watching you set your daughter's hair wont come to you for that style.
Also- let your haters be your motivators....

Do you need me to ride down and handle them for you? Don't even worry about them. Just make sure the next time you are going to do an awesome set, you move around the chair as you put in those flexirods so they can get a 360 view of your handy work as you flick your beautiful hair around in the air so all can see. After everyone starts seeing how excellent you are their clients will begin to flock to you. Use that hate to make your work stand out and the more they give attention to you like that, the more their clients will notice and they will start paying attention to you too. Maybe the next NC LHCF meeting needs to be in at they salon where you work so we can swish our beautiful sets for them hating stylist to see. :D

CONGRATULATIONS on completing cosmetology school!
Girl, even when you've been in the game for 10+ years, there will always be haters. They will be jealous because you have grown and cared for your hair, when it's down to your butt, they will be jealous of your styling skills, etc. Don't let it bother you. You handled yourself like a lady and I bet money, they will try to goad you into some other petty stuff. Be the bigger person.

Thank you ladies so much!!!!:D I've even laughed on some your responses.:lachen: I know you're not suppose to let ignorance get the best of you, but it really knaws on a person:( . I'm glad I handled it the way that I did, but if she evers does anything like that again, I will definitely pull her to the side and put her in her place. I really could have acted like a fool, but I have Jesus in my life and I had my two girls with me (5yrs. & 13yrs).

I definitely didn't want to handle the situation wrong in front of them. I'm their role model.

Hey, post your salons number. I might have to drive down to get you to do my hair before I go to LA on the 7th of October. I had to cancel my appointment to Morenas in Raleigh partly because of the distance but for a fell LHCF sister, I will make the trip;)

Let it be known that your actions will have a ripple effect upon your life, your workplace, and your daughter's life. In other words, THANK YOU for conducting yourself with poise, professionalism, and purity for yourself, your child, and your FUTURE clients! That's right! Those other stylists saw you getting attention as you were doing what you were supposed to be doing: practicing your craft, interacting with your child, and minding your own business. Those stylists clearly wanted to put your stuff out there, but you didn't let them disturb you. You hold your head up high, sister. Don't let them get to you. I'm glad you vented here and not in front of them or your baby.

When they try to start stuff like that again, you can politely say, "didn't you go to school also? So you should remember how the process works: the school hours, practical hours, then examination...." Then just briefly mention how excited you are to do what you love!

You're gonna be just fine! (Hug!)

You know what-just do you. Let your talent speak for itself and build your clientele based on that. If others want to hate, let them hate, but the proof that u know what u r doing is there. The clients see that. While other haters are focused hatin and not working, you just stay focused and professional and surpass them with the amt of business you will take in. ;)

You're absolutely right! I'm going to take this and the advice from the other members with me tonight as a reminder. Lord knows my head is going to be a little too high.

I agree with everyone else. Be proud that you finished school and that on top of having the professional training, you have common sense training and healthy hair training from your own school of hard knocks. If she wants to ask you anymore questions answer them honestly and throw an end comment like "but I've been nuturing healthy beautiful hair for years and years!!" :D

Haters always make me wanna be extra FLY!!! Smile big and make 'em hate even more while you continue to be your sweet self. Never let 'em see you sweat! It'll make them even madder as you have the personality to go with the skills and the looks.

Your daughter and your clients are your live business cards. People will admire their hair and ask who did it.

Don't be surprised when those stylists start stuttering and asking you for tips. ;)

O.k., now this has definitely got me pumped up (not too much) , but I'm getting off early and I think I'll go and fix my hair up, put a little makeup on and hot step it in there tonight. Don't worry, I'm not going to O.D.

:lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

I know that's right. The funny thing is, that's exactly the way whe was looking at my daughters' hair last night. As if she wanted me to do a demo for her.:lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

That is crazy. Why was she in your business like that? All of that was really none of her business and I wouldnt answer her questions again.

If she asks you all that, I would just say, "Why? Are you thinking about going back to pick up some classes? It is always good to go back and get a refresher on your technique. It really might make your clients a lot happier."

Yep, what she said! :D We love you, Mama! You know what you can do and you just do what you do best. I'm glad you stood your ground too! Work it!

That made me so mad... ...just hate and jealousy all up in there! How dare she! Doesn't she know that she would have looked better to her own clients if she had just complimented you and even asked you a few questions? You know, as if she might be interested in trying to do a good or better job for her own clients? Aren't you more drawn to people who give off a positive energy than you are to people that give off negative vibes? I wouldn't let that hater touch my head!

I am so proud that you held your head up. If you were in Indy, I'd gladly add my name to your growing list of clients.:)

And some of us want some new blood and not come out the 'shop' looking the same as the head around the corner. So you keep your glory-you handled it well. Just think, what you did by bringing your daughter in there and letting them see you work was smart, very smart.;)

Thank you ladies!!!!! Thank you for all of your encouraging, as well as funny words!!!! You have all made me feel so much better about handling the situation the way I did. I'm going to continue doing what I love doing and move on.

Some of you may know, but I'm originally from Queens, NY and I've ran into a couple of people from NY who have been wanting the domincan blowout. I'm doing one tonight and can't wait. I've bought some domincan products. Let's see them touch that!!!!!

Thanks for all the love ladies!!!!!:D

Congrats on completing your school and GOD Bless you for keeping your composure. What she meant for bad God will turn it around for your good.
The clients could see that she was trying to be catty and that might make some of them come to you because you must be doing something right to make all that hater-aide come up in her.
They don't want her negative vibes all up in their heads. ;)
Keep up the good work and keep being a good role model for your girls. :D

In all walks of life there are haters of all colors:mad: At least she showed herself right up front!
