Oh MY DAYZ! I do not know what I was thinking! but I did it and I am SOOOO happy...seriously, I thought Id wake up this morning in tears because I cut my hair! lol, but I'm like whatever! Im seriously looking forward to growing it natural and then relaxing it in about three years. Seriously, My Bsl 4b hair was a force to reckon with when I was younger, so im considering it later on. but anyways back to topic, look at my stingly and BADLY SPLIT and BROKEN ends...there was no saving them, I went crazy every time I brushed it cuz i could HEAR my hair breaking...so in a fit of rage...I got out the garden shears!

Here is my hair now!!! Im soo terrified, Ive never had hair this short before and there is no way Im stepping out with my hair like that. Im tall and skinny with a big head, my flat mate says I look like a lollipop:lachen::lachen:. so its covered underneath a Lace wig that I remove daily to co-wash my beautiful naps:yep:

Anyways please give me the best advice you can..How did you feel after your BC if at all? How long will it take to get to shoulder lenght? Im 4b, what are the do's and dont's?

I am definately a 4b unless there is something called 4z because my hair is tough!:lachen:

Sorry for the long post...Im so excited!

Wow congrats on starting your natural journey. Don't have much to add in the way of what to do, since I'm still transitioning here, and still have to cut off 1 inch of text ends off and then I'd be completely natural. But other than that, I'm sure lots of the natural heads here will chime in on what you can do! HHG! :)

Congrats on your big chop.
Now - buy a spray bottle- mix 2/3 cup water with 1/3 cup glycerin 2tbsp of your favorite hair oil and 3 tablespoons of your favorite leave in conditioner.
Spritz your hair with it till its slightly damp- then section hair off and start twisting. twist till your entire head is done. Put a satin scarf on at night and use a satin pillow case.
Treate your hair as if is the finest lace- cause it is.
Find a cheapie condish- I like trader Joe's Nourish Spa and Suave Tropical Coconut conditioner. Wash your hair with this. Only comb your hair when it is slathered with conditioner and is wet. To wash just pour some condish in your hand and work it through from your roots to your ends. You should let it sit for a minute and rinse out. 4b hair does not like shampoo it causes more shrinkage and tangling than is necessary.- so learning to use conditioner will be a good idea. Conditioner has sufficient detergent to clean both your hair and scalp.
Now find a deep conditioner- moisture- 4b needs moisture DPR-11 is a very good one for 5.99 - about 1/2 to 1 cup depending on hair length.and put it in a bowl- add 1 tablespoon of Olive oil. Mix. Put in your hair making sure to coat every strand. Cover with a plastic cap. Sit for 30 minutes. Rinse put in a creamy leave in (Giovanni Direct , Kids Organics Detangler,Bumble and Bumble-) and style your hair while damp. Use only a wide tooth comb and unless you have a soft natural bristle brush- do not run a brush through your hair. ( Other people like other products so you'll have to experiment with different conditioners. You'll find the one that works for you.) I mentioned my tried and true for me.
When twisting, get an alcohol free gel. I like ORS twist and lock gel as well as Fantasia IC gel- both do not flake. wear the twists for a few days with some pretty hair accessories or under your lace front. But spray your hair with the spritz described above at least in the morning and at night. On the ends of my twists I put Carols Daughter Healthy Hair Butter- some people like Cantu shea moisture or even a tiny bit of shea butter- this will help keep your ends from drying out. Smile- you are now a natural beauty!

Congradulations and LOL @ Lollipop!! I have the same look going on myself!! I am wearing lace fronts too until spring to get a little growth.

I Love the advice Napity gave you, I am going out to get my Elasta DPR on Monday. I'm doing a Hendago (Henna and Indigo mix) tonight, that helps loosen my curls a little bit. There's another tread on using yogurt to loosen the curls as well. It makes my curls into pretty spirals.. There is a TWA grow out challenge on the board... I'll add the link to the post. This is so cool. I never thought in a million years I would go natural, like you this is an adventure!! I'll be stalking this thread as well because I have the same questions as you!!

tell me about it...I NEVER thought Id be going natural, even my mum was like 'what were you thinking?!' but then she took a deep breah and said it was for the best. Since she let me relax my bsl afro at 13, things took a turn for the worse...quickly:nono:

this is crazy we are both doing the henna thing! lool, I literally just rinsed out the LUSh henna and indigo mix from my hair!!

Congrats. Some times I miss my short hair. I think the cowashing is a great idea. Just make sure you keep your hair properly moisturized.

Congratulations! I think you will have fun with your natural hair. I never did a BC so I am often very curious about the easy-care lifestyle of a TWA. You absolutely CAN wear your hair out as it is. Why not? Go to a barber and get it shaped up if that makes you feel better. You may have missed some relaxed ends anyway. And work it!

I've haven't had a perm in over 12 years. Sometimes I get frustrated, sometimes I'm in love, but no matter what I won't be going back to the perm. :)

Congrats!! Have fun with the twa..it won't last that long, before you know it you will have a head full of hair!

Don't be discouraged, look at it as being emancipated!!! No more relaxers, costly trips to the salon, it's all naturale and importantly, it's all yours. You can be an inspiration to others wanting to take that step. :yep:

Congrats on the BC! I felt horrible when I BC'd and wore a wig until I felt comfortable. People that knew me were really shocked, but I would get tons of compliments from strangers, which helped me feel more comfortable as well. Nappity4b definitely gave you some good advice. Cowashing was so good to me and my hair. Happy growing!
