to any sister who asks or do you keep it to yourself? At first I was telling everyone when I realized the benefits but people always want to argue and complain about no/low heat, extending relaxers, etc. Now my hair is noticably longer and stronger to me, esp. when worn down. But it is still not droolworthy.IMHO I have to admit with the exception of my sister and neice I am reluctant to share with anyone else. Do you feel like this sometimes?

I used to tell the ladies I work with the tips and tricks I've learned here but they blow me off as if I don't know what I'm talking about..... I can't wait for my hair to reach bsl stretched, I plan on going to work with my hair Maxi glided....the jaws will definitely drop. The haters will assume it's a weave.

I think people are receptive when they remark on the difference. My family saw my hair transition from thin and overprocessed to healthy, so they've been asking me what I do. So with them, I'm more than happy to share. Fortunately, I've never had a negative experience when telling people about my hair tips.

You are so right, the other people just don't understand. I said increase your water intake and cleanse your body of toxins by detoxifing (sp) talk about strange looks?

lol I was just about to post this. Today at work one of my co-workers asked me what I ate for lunch when I told her I went to the supermarket to get lime juice and coconut milk she asked why. I told her it was for my hair and her and my other co-workers started looking at me like I was crazy. Then one of my male co-workers brought up about 2 weeks ago when I tried the cayenne mix and how my scalp was itching. Everyone thougth I was crazy. I was reluctant to tell them about the MN cuz I knew I'd never hear the end of it. After explaining to them that it all works they started coming around and even two of my co-workers asked me what the website for LHCF was. I have been wearing my hair in updo's since January (the BC) so no one knows that I had cut my hair. I can't wait until Im at brastrap again and I can show them all that I've learned from LHCF has really helped me....and maybe even put a couple of them on too.:) lol but the look on my supervisors face was priceless when i told her about the cayenne pepper mix...you would have thought that I had told her that i was rubbing blood or something into my scalp everyday.

I usually only tell people what I do if it seems that they have a sincere interest. I've had too many instances where I begin to tell people about things that I do(stretching relaxers, rarely trimming, etc.) and the first thing that comes out of their mouth is that I'm WRONG!:perplexed

So yeah, only if they actually seem interested and not looking to criticize what I know works for me.

When I first discovered this site, I was chomping at the bit to tell all my friends/co-workers what I learned, but I eventually calmed down because I knew that they probably wouldn't get it and accuse me of obsessing (which I was at first!). Quite honestly, I am just learning proper haircare myself and I've decided to not volunteer any advice; I'll let my results speak for themself in due time. Of course, if I'm asked explicitly I will make suggestions based on what I've learned here.

Everytime I see my Mom she asks me for hair tips, but then she looks at me with this blank stare when I tell her what I do. It's like she thinks I'm using some miracle product and she is not satisfied to hear that it is all about retention for me.

And my stepmom and sister definitely looked at me like I was crazy when I told them I threw out my curling iron, banished my blowdryer to the back of the closet and what really threw them for a loop, stopped combing or brushing my hair on a daily basis. People really can't imagine me going out of my house without combing my hair.

Actually I like the blank stares and crazy looks because it feels good to hear them say that all my "crazy" tips must be working.

And this is just the response I get from my family. I am very guarded about what I tell non-family members.

I don't...i wish i could, or i wish i had someone to tell but honestly i have never had a positive response when i have shared any type of hair advice. I have talked to my sisters and i always get 'oh yea i moisturize right or i know all of that'. So its like no one wants to hear it. and sometimes they lovingly tease me which i don't mind at all. If someone asked me, I would be honored to share details... I would slowly tell them bit by bit and try to feel if they are learning or if they are wasting my time and energy. But as far as close friends...i wouldn't dare mention anything because it sounds so "i'm better than you''. So i keep it all to myself...maybe one day i'll write a book. :ohwell:

I share tips with my sister too, but she thinks I buy too much products to use in my hair. She tells me that her hairdresser recomends one product to use at home which is a serum. She goes religously every week for shampoos and every six weeks for relaxers.

I agree with Lovely Z and the magic products. It seems folks don't want to hear that TLC and retention helped to retain my lenght. My hair always grew but I didn't do a good job at helping it to retain lenght. I use to think why these girls constantly wear their hair in a buns on here. LovelyZ showed me why the bun method worked. Her hair grew really quickly in just a few months.

I get the your hair is really growin comments too. Folks don't want to make the sacrifices I made as a natural. My no heat challenge is hard for some folks. I hardly ever comb my hair now that I have my trusted Denman brush.

I don't share tips because it's just too hard. I use what I've learned on my daughter's hair and keep it movin'.

right now not that many ask cause i just embarked on this hair journey. in the past i always told them and yes they argue about my suggestions. they can't argue with the results though that's why they asked in the first place!

no because even though i have good hair care tips i have not been praticing them and my hair is proof of that. so i would tell someone you should do x,y,z for your hair and when they see that my hair is in bad condition they're arent gonna take my advice. not that i blame them. and one of my friends was laughing when i told her i use s curl.

Sometimes there is just no changing people. My friend who's hair is so greasy I can fry chicken off it, thinks she knows IT ALL when it come to hair care:perplexed And if I tell her I was my hair moore than once a week she goes " you think you white?!"

The only person who will hear me out is my sister. And plus I make her hear me:lol: . I don't want to have this beautiful hair and she is stuck with nothing, I care too much about her and her hair.

My supervisor has damaged hair. She is trying to grow it to neck-shoulder length from ear length. In the 5-6 months I've been there, her hair has not moved.

She refuses to believe that blacks can have long thick hair. We have one young lady who has thick shoulder length blunt cut relaxed hair and she thought it was a weave.

But I told her that what she needed to do was just make some minor adjustments in her regimen and she would see results. She aint' really hearing me.

She has broken off hairs and I think they are from the relaxer. I gave her some tips but she was like she's going to consult her hair dresser. I asked her has her hair grown since going to the hairdresser. Her reply is no but she is going to consult with the hairdresser to do something different.

I tried.

I only tell my secrets to my cousin and my aunt but even talking with them seems like a waste of time. I don't even bother telling anyone else because I've done that and whatever I say goes in one ear and out the other....
