Lacking Discipline

I have the hardest time sticking to things when it requires extra effort, lol. I mean vitamins...I cannot stick to taking them faithfully for more than 3 weeks, and I'm guaranteed to miss at least one day. Products you apply to the scalp like scalp massages with essential oils, forget it, I'll do it for a few days, but it's such an extra step that I cannot stand. Plus I have a hard time fitting it in to my regular frequent washing and my styling regimen. Keeping a regular deep conditioning schedule...I'd love to do it faithfully once a week, but I forget, put it off, get really busy, and go sometimes 3 WEEKS without doing it.

It seems the only thing I can stick to when it comes to my hair is washing frequently (conditioner washes with a shampoo once a week to every week and a half) and I guess that's because I get in the shower everyday, lol. Also, not going without some type of leave in and moisturizer in my hair.

I completely lack discipline when it comes to implement beneficial things into my hair care regimine. Fortunately the things I've mentioned are "extra" steps rather than necessary ones (with the exception of more regular deep conditioning treatments). I just wish I had some of the focus and dedication some of you have to stick to things. The main bad thing about it is that these habits also spill over into other aspects of my life outside of hair care, so I do want to get a better hold of this "flakiness" I'll call it.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem, lol.

I'm right there with you. The only thing I can take faithfully, n that's missing 2 days sometimes is MSM, and i usually jump back on it cause I can see when I start to break out

That's exactly why I don't have a regimen to this day --- I can't stick to anything! I feel bad when someone asks me what my regimen is because I feel like I'm no help when I tell them I don't have one and that I just go with the flow of things. I know when I need to deep condition, shampoo, or moisturize, I don't need a set schedule to tell me when to do it.

And I feel you about the vitamins. If I was consistent with things they might have helped me last year but I couldn't remember to take them everyday. It's really not that important to me anymore. I only take vitamins now when I don't want cramps, and it's actually a calcium pill so it's not really hair related.

As for scalp massages, hair treatments, etc --- forget about it! I'm just lazy. The only thing that I'm consistent with is styling! :p

Allandra- You are too silly! Thanks

WildChild & LovelyMiss - You guys definitely feel my pain, lol. Thank goodness this stuff isn't REQUIRED or else I'd be in trouble!!!

ITA on your hair!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE it. So cute!

Anyway re: regimine.

I keep all my vitamins in my bathroom closet. The very last thing I do prior to leaving tha bathroom for good in the a.m. is to take all my vitamins and put them in a plastic baggie, which I promptly put in my handbag.

Since the first thing I do in the a.m. at work is get a bottle of water, I take my vitamins then. On the weekends I put them on my bedstand, and take them with my tea.

I find that being in one place physically will remind me. That, and the vits are at eye-level, so when I am putting away my makeup and hairbrushes in the morning as I open my closet there they are...staring me in the face.

Awww, thanks!

That's a good idea. Out of sight, out of mind, so I guess keeping them in sight can help alleviate that problem.

Soror I know what you mean! Its so hard to stay consistent with some things, because I just forget and/or get lazy. I have heard such wonderful results from the ladies who say that they massage their scalp daily with their essential oil cocktail..... and Ive tried to do this, but i just cant stay committed to it! I always get bored, dont know if im massaging it correctly, and end up quitting after under a minute. And this is the once a week that I remember to even attempt it. Thats really a shame, because i bet it would make a difference if i actually did this consistently every day.

I also tried to join the co-washing challenge.... and fell off of that as well, because i just was too lazy to be committed. I, too, have found that I am one of those people who needs a VERY simple regimen. Less is more for me. I just stick to my 1x per week wash/deep condition, protein treatment every 8 weeks, vitamins daily, and moisturizing/sealing 5x per week. Thats about all i can really handle responsibly, i've come to realize. Any and all other stuff just becomes too much for me, and i lack the discipline to totally commit.

so1913, I'm right there with you. I tried to set a regimen when I first joined the board, but quickly realized that it is not for me. I pretty much stick to the basics (regular shampoos or co-washes, very minimal heat, and a conditioning treatment when I find it convenient). I don't bother with vitamins either, and I'm happy with my hair. But then again, I'm not one who believes that a certain regimen, product or practice will increase my hair's growth rate.

it is really nice to know that I am not the only one. I have been year three years and have not been very stable. I am a fan of band wagons but so far I have not been on any this year.

Since January, the only thing that I have been committed to is preconditioning and washing twice a week.

Don't feel bad, I have a bunch of vitamins I don't keep up with. I wash, condition, rollerset or airdry. I can't get caught up in anything else.
