Hello lovely ladies, just a quick question, I want to stretch my relaxer: I relaxed in April and I'm trying to stretch until Aug,(I have a dry/itchy scalp, and I need to figure out why, so I need to reevaluate my relaxer and products), I had microbraids, and I DID NOT LIKE TAKING THOSE OUT, so my next option is sticking to my cornrows or trying kinky twists, I never had kinky twists and I want to know for those ladies who had them before, what's your opinion on them, were they hard to take out? How long did they last? Just give me your honestly opinion on them. Thanks ladies in advance, (and if anyone can offer some advice on the dry/itchy scalp, I'll take it ).

I enjoy kinky twists and will be putting mine back in at the end of June. I found them lighter than box braid. They should be easier to take out than braids. The last time I had them my hair was only ear length so I cut off the extension hair just pass my hair and unraveled the rest. Cornrows make my scalp itch so I dont get those often.

I have kept them in 2 to 2.5 months. My hair starts to dred after that. When I do them myself I keep them in for a month.

Ive never had micros because I didnt think I wanted to sit that long. Kinky twists are larger so they shouldnt take as long to take out. There was a yt video where the woman took her micros out with a comb and they came out pretty easy.

I'm putting my last few in right now. I love this style. I can wash them as much as I want and they are easy to take out.

SlantedEyezMiss2003 i think kinky twists are ok but i'm not 100% in love because you typically have to curl the ends (if you like the curls at the ends, then this wont be a biggie). in terms of maintenance, you can make them last a good while by sleeping with a satin scarf and not touching too much (this will also make your edges happy)

it also helps if you know how to twist so that when they start to get fuzzy, you can just touch up the culprits and keep the style for longer :yep:

Well thank you, I'm good at twisting, I twist my baby hair everyday, I just wanted to try something different, cuz I want to grow some of this relaxer out and I'm switching to lye, but thanks for the respond, I decided I'm going to get them!!!

I was just researching this last night. I think I will try my own set of kinky twists, I saw Mook's tutorial via a post from Noni (thanks!) and really want to try.

I did my own set of kinky twist with eon hair a little while ago. They were great. Take down was a breeze. The only thing I didn't like was that when I washed the twist they never ever really felt wet. So it was hard to gauge if i had saturated my real hair or not.

I was just thinking about this! I'm going to do this to my hair the second week of june.
just removed some Sensationnel hair because it itched waaaay too much.

With that being said. Do you have to wash the kanekalon hair in the water+ vinegar mix to avoid this?

does it even happen?

They are easy to take out. The longest I have kept them before was 2 months. I don't get them anymore because my hair is too long IMO and I suffer from an itchy scalp as well.

I want to do my own Kinky Twists. I am very new at braiding. I forced myself to get better when I had a daughter last year. Funny how the unavoidable motivates us. :) I want to do kinky twists because they are gorgeous and since the idea is for them to look kinky the longer they are in the better. I also figure that compared to straight hair in micros or something that I would have more room to mess them up since the hair is wavy looking thus making screw ups harder to detect for a beginner braider. I am just worried that I may not be able to get them into a ponytail for work but I have seen many females in the military rock the kinky twists. I may actually try and put some in this weekend. I suppose I could post pics of my first try if I do. :)

Oh and for the woman who hated taking out micros back home in Florida we'd put micros around the perimeter of our head and just sew-in the middle. Nobody knows the difference...especially if you just wear em down.

I think that you can soak the synthetic hair in ACV to strip the chemicals off the hair that makes it itchy.
