Keraphix users - with or without heat?

If you use or have used Keraphix, could you let me know if it works bettter with or without heat? I've been using it for a month, each time with heat. The first time for less than 10 minutes and today for about 20 minutes under the dryer. Then, it was quite easy for my hairdresser to comb through. Today, it was a tangled mess, even after Headress was applied. I had to close my eyes while my hairdresser was "combing" it through, wishing it would end soon, also not wanting to see how much hair was being pulled out.

Could the tangles have anything to do with the amount of time that I was under the dryer? If I were to use no heat, would the protein and oils in the conditioner (the latter I add), get inside my hair?

I've used Keraphix in the past (several years ago, w/o heat) and don't remember these problems, but it was a while ago. I'm hoping to be able to stick with it. If not, what about deep conditioning with Humectress? I know it's billed as a moisturizing conditioner, but proteins are listed among the first ingredients. Couldn't that moisturize as well as strengthen my hair? Anyway, any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Cary,

Yes, it is possible that leaving a conditioner on too long will yield you less than pleasant results. When you use a conditioner under the dryer, it is really not necessary to stay under for longer than 7 minutes. (round it to an even 10 if you'd like). After that amount of time, the conditioner has done what it was made to do. If you use it without heat, I'd say about 20 minutes with a plastic cap on. Either way, the conditioner can penetrate--but the heat helps the reaction to happen faster --which is why you don't need to sit as long with heat.

Try the Humectress. I think it is wonderful, but again--do not leave it on too long. I have made this mistake with Humectress and I was not happy

Good luck!

Thanks, Supergirl. I definitely didn't know that conditioners do all that they are intended to do in 7 minutes w/heat. I'll have to go under the dryer for less than 10 next week and see if things turn out a little (no, a lot) better. I also have some Humectress on hand (ya see . . . ever since finding this board, I've been unable to stay out of the stores browsing, purchasing hair products). I plan to use the Keraphix for a couple more weeks and then switch to the Humectress for a while. No particular reason. Just thought it sounded like a good plan.

If I did my own hair, I'd follow up the Keraphix with Humectress . . . then the Headress (overkill?). As things stand, I do the weekly salon visit thing and don't want to have to ask her to add yet another step to my routine (I only recently started bringing in my own products, getting the deep conditioning under the dryer, having a leave-in applied, etc. . . . all of which she's okay with, but I don't want to push it).

Anyway, thanks so much for replying to my post.

Cary, what you said was what I was going to add . . . in about two to three weeks I would do the Keraphix (15 minutes or so without heat or 7-10 with heat), followed by Humectress. Because although Keraphix is light, it is nevertheless a protein reconstructor that needs to be followed up with a moisturizing treatment. (See, I'm learning too

.) Following it with a dab of Headress sounds okay. I too use a leave in with every wash.

--perfect peace

ditto... no more than 15 mins

I read the instructions and follow them when it comes to proteins. Less is more when it comes to proteins and extended use, esp w/heat. I use Keraphix w/a heating cap only for 10 mins. It says it can be used w/ or w/o for as few as 5 mins. If I want extra moisture I use Keraphix and Humectress together w/heat for the same period of time.
