Keraphix is saving the day but I need advice

Sunday I will have stretched to nine weeks post, for the first time ever. I am determined to make it to 12 weeks post. I was having a little problem with breakage at the demarcation line (entire stands were coming out wet or dry). I have decreased my washing to every 3-4 days instead of the nightly rinse and conditioning. I am also using Nexuss Keraphix once a week to strengthen the demarcation line.

Has anyone else done weekly Keraphix treatment to stop breakage so you can stretch longer or am I doing something wrong? Protien & moisture seem balanced because of the rinse & con washes with Humectress.

I love texlaxed hair but the tangles are a trip. I am thinking about smoothing out my texlaxed hair more next relaxer unless I can find advice on how to deal with tangles later in the relaxer stretch. Any suggestions?

Could you give more info on your regimen? Did you do any strong protein treatment after texlaxing?? (apogee, emergencee??). Kerphix is light protein so that may be the problem. Or you may not have enough moisture.

No, i don't use kerap but I would say if you need more strength, use it more. listening to your hair is the best way to grow it. Find a moist conditioner to follow up with, it's based on what YOUR hair likes...mine likes slip so i use kerac humecto...some use humectress...its up to you

as for texlaxed hair...mannnnn i am so feeling you on the tangles...

The texlaxing process isn’t damaging my hair enough to warrant a stronger protein. I bought the Aphogee intensive treatment just in case (the kind you let harden on your hair) but I haven’t needed it. I’m really happy about that because the Aphogee stinks.

I think the breakage came from my hair going threw withdrawls from the creamy crack.

What part do you want to know? Most of my regimen comes from Sylver 2 and Isis but I will tell you what ever you want to know?

I just successfully completed my first 12 wk stretch and I'm 4a/b, Yeah! First, because of all the ng I don't think daily rinsing would have worked for me because of all the manipulation. I completed this stretch w/o braids or weaves. Not my style. Just worked with my own hair. I washed twice a week, Wed and Sat. I do rollerset sets with each wash. Starting around wk 7/8 I would press the ng with my ceramic curling iron if I wanted the straighter look. If not, I would just finger comb the set in bun. I would always use some type of serum on each curl (Aveda Brilliant or Chi Silk Infusion). My Wed wash would be a light poo with a moisturizing poo (Phillip B White Truffles or Redken all soft, Frederick Fekkai Moist Poo). I would deep cond under the dryer for 30 min with any on the following (Redken Smooth Down mixed with Keraphix, Phyto Specific Intense Nutri). The last month or so I started deep cond with my Dominican products on with the Wed wash (Silicon Mix and 10 en 1 mixed, Silicon Mix with Tratamiento Aceite De Oliva). I discovered this mix really soften the ng. To prepare for Sat wash on Friday night I parted my hair in four sections and applied Tratamiento Aceite De Oliva as pre poo sometimes adding EVOO and jojoba oils. I would put on a plastic cap and let it cond over night. The next day the ng would be very soft. I would proceed to poo with my staple Aveda Damage Remedy Poo and then deep cond with ADR cond and treatment. My leave in each time would be Lacio, Lacio, Aveda Elixir and Mizani Therma Strength. Sometimes I spray in this other detangle by Aveda (can't think of the name). However, my hair is extremely soft and I detangle and set w/o a problem up to 12wks. I always do a aphogee treatment as well to give my hair extra protein (two during this stretch). Believe, I never thought that I could pull this off, but I learned that if I roller set my it hides a lot of the ng. I worked with it and not against it. I also realize that ng will not lay flat like relaxed hair and has just accepted that. I was also able to wrap my hair if I press it with my iron. I don't use blow dryers and have not since 2005. I plan to continue my 12 wks stretch from now because it totally gave me a new head of hair. Stick with it and do what works for you! Hopefully this will help you.

I have been stretching up to 12 weeks for about a year now. I love keraphix, but I don't use it every week. I only use it when my hair starts to break. I always put SCurl on the new growth to make it as soft as possible. I also add small amount of paul mitchell the detangler to my conditioner, that helps with the tangles.

Angie your hair is looking sooo good! Your hair reminds me of mine. If I had not under gone an unwanted cut in Dec I would be close to that length. I sometimes add paul mitchell detangler to my cond as well. Trying to get rid of it. I started doing that because I used it alone once and it really did nothing for hair but stunk it up. Smells like crude oil or something.

Thanks for these suggestions. Very helpful

I also use keraphix once a week. IMO it may just be time for you to relax. My relaxing schedule isn't so rigid, I do it when my hair says its time (could be 10 weeks or 20 weeks).

If you want to try to continue stretching, then maybe try emergencee. Its the only one I've used in conjunction with Keraphix that I know that make my hair go bonkers.

I can't advise about Aveda because it dosen't agree with my hair but lots of ladies here have had great success with it.

CONGRATULATIONS! Stretching 12 weeks with 4a4b is serious! I use many of the same techniques you do but there are a few I think I may have to adopt like decreasing the amount of washes and start back up rollersetting. I never thought to try the fantasia serum on my curls to see how it measures up. I usually use mango butter and oil. Thanks for the inspiration.

I will try the scurl on my new growth. I bought it but had no idea what to do with it. I have The Detangler also; I was not getting enough slip. I will try mixing with Humectress & see what happens.

:lachen: Thank you janeemat for the compliment. I never even noticed the smell of that detangler. I guess becuse I mixed it with other products.
