Just write a letter...

When something is weighing heavy on your heart and you need to share your feelings with someone, has it ever worked for you to communicate in writing? Consider that there are pre-existing communication problems and verbalizing these feelings might not be productive. The motive is not a cop out to avoid a face-to-face convo, rather to avoid any misunderstanding.

Yes, writing out how you feel works great. It gives you the chance to write or rewrite what you want and perfect it before you give it to the other person. It prevents that dreaded word vomit which you cannot take back after you say it. If I'm really extra hot I will write down how I feel but put it away and reread it the next day or several hours later to see if that is still what I want to say after I have calmed down.

Also, it keeps the other person from being able to interrupt you while you are expressing yourself and hopefully they will read and process what you have written before responding.

I have my journals. It is very important for me to have my journal because it allows me to express myself, reflect, and answer my own questions. Sometimes I look back on old entries and find answers and closure to things I may experiencing at the current time. I most importantly give thanks to everything I have in my journal.

Just realized that you meant write a letter to another person. That is good too. I normally write to myself and then I am able to express myself rationally to the person.

Thank you letskeepntouch- it's just hard to reprogram after it's been hardwired that addressing issues face-to-face, via candid conversation is the best approach. It's true that what works for some may not work for all.

I used to write to myself as a teenager. I think I may have to start again, it's very cleansing and cathartic to have a "space" in which you can really be yourself. It also gives you hindsight on what you've dealt with and allows you to evaluate more introspectively. Thank you..
