Just wanted to share this w/the relaxed ladies- how to get waves

it turned out really nice, but I am too lazy for that :ohwell:. I don't use heat and I am not good at roller setting. I believe the other ladies will find this useful. Thank you.

very interesting...but i don't have enuff length for that style...my hair would just come out looking like a waved afro

for some reason this video and this style looks like it was created in the 90s.:ohwell: It doesn't look like an up to date style. I think ppl wear their waves much softer and looser than that. But it was a very good instructional video

Thank you for this, I love new creative ideas!

I will be bookmarking this and trying it when my hair is longer. I'll probably use bigger rollers and a bigger-barreled curling iron so it'll be looser waves and less 1970's lookin :lachen:

Thanks again!

Great video but I am too lazy for all this. I just fingerwave my dry hair with some NTM Silk Touch leave in and hold it in place with duckbills...... voila! Wave clamps and one of those microwave caps would work too.

I agree. At first I didn't say anything because I felt like a hater...BUT...I thought it was going to be really pretty with the curlers that she put in it...but once she went back with the hot curler I thought it looked a little "too" done.

I was really surprised when she went back over it with the hot curler...especially since she charterized this style as low manipulation for transitioners. :look:

That does look like something out of New Jack City:lachen:

:lachen: Stop it! That style was very involved. Why not just wash and blowdry and then use a waving iron/crimper. The one with the double barrel? She went old school crimping with a regular curling iron. I think the video is old though. Look at how old the curling iron looked. Modern ones don't look like that.

New Jack City? Stop!! :lachen:

I'm sorry but that seems impossible to do yourself. I'd have 3rd degree burns. Did you see how much she touched the barrel? Stylists must have teflon fingers!

I don't see the point of all using all those rollers and wasting time to roll it and dry it if you're just going to use a curling iron.

Her hair turned out beautiful, but I wouldn't feel comfortable enough to put that much heat on my hair. I personally like the way it looked right after the rollers were taken down. I wonder what type of setting lotion the stylist used...hmmm.

Thank you for sharing this video link. This is interesting and I too liked it after she took out the rollers. :yep:

IMO, similar results can be done more safely and faster with braidouts, especially for those transitioning. But I understand this is a hair stylist.

Yeah, the video is old. Noone wears their makeup like that anymore either. She had lots of gook on her face.

Me too. ITA w/everything you said from feeling like a hater to the curling iron to the low manipulation for transitioners. But, I agree w/the OP also. I think that this is a good start. If we can set our hair on the rollers like that, then we can choose to style it however we please. Like for me, I would probably have set my hair w/some S-curl and maybe some mousse, then when I took the curlers out I would've scrunched my hair lightly and blow dry it for like one minute w/a hand held blow dryer and a diffuser.

Here's another one that shows how to set your hair for smaller curls.

This would take me FOREVER to do. The end result in the video is dissappointing.

I agree w/braidouts and twist-outs. They are also much quicker. :yep: Has anyone tried a twist-out w/a fine toothed comb?
