Just want to share with you all...

Hi Pandora,

I usually do a deep conditioner every 3 days and protein conditioner once a month. I felt my hair was in as good a shape as I could get it for the lye switch, so I didn't do anything special prior to the relaxer. I didn't wash or do anything to my hair for 3 days before the relaxer. I based my scalp really well, I had the lye relaxer applied to my new growth first. Afterwards it was massaged into the whole length of my hair and I left it for about 5 minutes and washed it out. I used a reconstructor followed by a deep conditioner after the lye relaxer.

After I styled my hair and took some pictures, I sprayed the hair dew in my hair to saturate it and put a plastic cap over my hair. And I kept my hair that way from saturday to sunday night before I tried a wrap. I have a cousin who used to be a hairdresser and she told me to keep my hair moisturized as much as I can for the week following the new relaxer. Her view is that most of the damage comes after applying a relaxer so that's when you really have to pay close attention to the care of your hair to minimize damage. /images/graemlins/smile.gifSorry for the long post. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I second & thrid all the comments; your hair looks really beautiful and I'm glad that your no-lye to lye switched turned out so great for you. After reading what you did after the moisturizing for the other days I can tell that you're definitely on track with your hair maintenance, but what is hair dew ?

Hi Ms. Kenesha,

Thanks for the compliment. Hair Dew is a liquid moisturizer sold by Cathy Howes. You can click the link below to check it out. It's my favorite moisturizer. I don't use it to detangle, only as a really good moisturizer. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Bronxdiva,

I usually lightly mist my hair with the dew everymorning and every night. If your style is dry and you don't want to ruin it, just spray lightly so you don't revert your hairstyle. When I wear my hair up or in a bun, I usually wet my hair a lot more with the dew and smooth my hair up. At night, spray your hair with the dew and give it 15 minutes or so to dry before you go to sleep. Do this religously everyday, morning and night, and you will soon see how shiney and soft your hair gets with the dew. And I really love the smell.

The conditioner is great. It is a a deep conditioner that you use after every time you wash your hair. It is recommended that you use it every 3-4 days for 20 minutes with a heat cap. Again, I do this religously, every 3 to 4 days! When you use it, you'll feel this tingling sensation on your scalp, it's like a stimulant. Cathy Howes recommends that if you're just starting her regime, you do the deep condition after every wash for the first month or so. Then you can do it once a week thereafter. Make sure your rinse this conditioner well out of your hair. I usually use an instant conditioner after her deep conditioner because it tends to leave my hair hard. Just 3 minutes with any regular instant conditioner should do. After that spray the dew in your hair, and anything else you like to use. Dry and style.

Bronxdiva, if you don't have her book, I will gladly send you mine. I've highlighted some sections in her book and I know it pretty well, so I don't mind giving you mine if you would like it. /images/graemlins/smile.gif I would be more than happy to pass on the great hair tips I learned from this woman to you. It has a lot of worthwhile information and I have to credit this woman for changing the way I treat my hair. If you're interested, email me and I'll send it to you. Let me know if you need anymore help. Good Luck!!

awww, pebbles ur too kind! God bless you. U r one of my favourite 'regulars' on this board!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks Pebbles,

You have been very helpful from the day I registered to become a member I greatly appreciate your help /images/graemlins/smile.gif Thank you for offering me the book, I just ordered it yesterday from Barnes and Noble. I got my hair products yesterday and the conditoner states do not use until you have read the book, so I was like oh lord!

You're welcome BronxDiva! She basically says the same thing I told you. So as long as you wash your hair every 3 to 4 days, use a shampoo that says for dry and damaged hair, and deep condition with her conditioner for 20 minutes after every wash, you'll do fine until your copy of the book comes. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Good luck and keep me posted! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

cathys regimen is very very simple (compared to carolyn grays) but the PJ in me cannot go with just a few products!!! i like the excitment of trying new stuff out! so i pick bits out of cathy and carolyn's regimens /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I believe Cathy recommends you do not use her conditioner until you have read the book so you can thoroughly understand how to use and get the full benefits of the Conditioner. What gives the tingly sensation would be due to the Peppermint Oil that's in her conditioner. Overall, her products are great as far as ingredient wise, but with my hair, for some reason, it doesn't react well with the Conditioner. Not say that it is not a great product.

However, I experienced much better results with her hair Dew which is absolutely love as a daily moisturizer, softener, smoother and anything else to make your hair manageable.

Here's a trick that I like to keep your edges straight. When you wrap your hair at night, spray some of her Hair Dew directly to your edges and then apply a small (teeny tiny) amount of hair oil (KeraCare Essential, WildGrowth Oil...get my drift) to the same location and take either a fine tooth comb or brush (this is the only time I'll consider a brush) and comb it or brush it down. When tying your scarf make sure to cover to keep flat and smooth. By morning, it will feel sooooooooo soft and look straight. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Now why didn't I think of that?? I've been trying to wrap my hair and have been asking for wrap lotion recommendations, and the dew was right under my nose! /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That's the best thing about hair care, pebbles. Even when your current regime yields fantastic results, there are always great ways to improve upon it!

Gosh, I love these boards /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

P,

Your hair looks fabulous. I am so glad that all your hard work is paying off. I am fairly new to the board but their is a great wealth of information on proper hair care. I hope I will have success in reaching my hair lenght goal which is to have shoulder length hair. Keep up the good work.

Pebbles,
Have you experienced the shedding that Shamboosie mentioned in the book. I notice my hair is experiencing some breakage.

Hairfanatic and Sbaker, thanks for the compliments ladies! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Bronxdiva, I have been getting more shedding than I usual get. Refresh my memory. Did Shamboosie say that a person would experience excess shedding after switching from no-lye to lye relaxers? Are you experiencing breakage, as in a lot of broken pieces, or shedding where the whole strand of hair comes out? I have to go back and consult the book because I honestly don't remember.
