Just found one of those L shaped ends again

I haven't seen and L but I did find a strand of hair that formed a loop within itself about an inch away from the ends. My hair is not curly, I have no idea how that happens, of course it broke off :-(

I had these ALOT after a bad relaxer experience 18 months ago. I was freaking out thinking I was going to lose my hair but with patience and TLC I saw a huge turnaround.:yep:

I think this is what caused mine. I think the run off from the relaxer over time is causing this. I had never had anyone protect my prev. relaxed hair before until I started self relaxing.

I got some on those too, closer to the ends. I don't know what causes them either.

I have them too. I'm always searching and destroying my split ends. It just seems like if you're taking care of your hair then you shouldn't have them but i guess not:(

That is what I can't understand...You do the wet sets, use a shower comb, protein treatments etc....and you still have them.

I know-right? It gets frustrating at times b/c sometimes i'll see a split end and I'm like "darn I just did a search and destroy". I know I wear a protective style a lot.........what gives?

When you are doing s & d sessions are you getting the strands that haven't split yet, too? The ones that look lighter on the ends that will eventually split or could eventually become L-shaped?

*runs off to do more research on trichorrexis nodosa*

They're called trichorrhexis nodosa. I had them the first 10 months of my journey. As long as you continue to see fewer and fewer they'll eventually be gone.

I sure hope so. I have decided to cut close to an inch off so maybe that will help.

I was thinking about you -- glad to hear that it'll be an inch off and not half your head....you had me worried.

Just be consistent going forward regarding the relaxer run off on your ends like you've been doing.

:hug2:

Way back when i posted a thread with pics. I wish i had known they where splits. Now i have L's and hooks again. I will be getting those suckers out after i relax.

I was just looking online at the Affirm line of products, and they apparently their Affirm Normalizing Shampoo is supposed to help this.

Affirm® Normalizing Shampoo
  • Produces a rich lather to effectively cleanse and remove residual relaxer oils.
Verifies normalization with a color indicator: Lather turns from pink to white when normalization is complete.
Repairs trichorrhexis nodosa (damaged areas along the hairshaft)
Tightly re-aligns cuticles to a closed position.
    Leaves hair tangle-free.
Contains natural botanical extracts and humectants to moisturize hair.
It may be worth looking in to. HTH.
