"Honestly, Truly"
Just HOW horrible was that hair washing session?

And to think i've got to repeat it over the weekend, it was as bad as I thought it would be :(

Anyway, there is new growth, so please take a look.
x

My hair grows faster in the back too. I don't know why though and do you blow dry your hair ?
You have a good amount of new growth.

gotta love that new growth! i dont see any tangles, or do you mean your relaxed ends tangling in your natural hair?

Congrats girl. I know what you mean about the tangles I hate em. Best advice is to sit down keep calm, put on a movie and carefully do the untangling. I never look in the mirror and do them, it's best if I feel my way around.

You got a good start going on there with the whole transitioning process. And tons of thick new growth. Keep it up.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't see any tangles. I only see some very thick healthy new growth.

What products & tools are you using?

Thanks guys.

i'm very grateful my thick natural hair is returning, I never thought it ever would again.

But the knots and tangling was truly ridiculous!!! (that's how we spell it in the UK!)

I don't blow dry my hair, it's wave nouveau and besides, I don't want to use heat on it before it's at it's healthiest, which definitely is not now! LOL.

I had knots and tangles mostly from the permed hair, and I know I should just BC now, but i'm just not ready... Looks like another set of braids for me.

x

By the way, the hair texture coming in is NOT like when I was younger... will I ever get that texture back or is it gone for good?
xx

SO your relaxed hair is messing with your natural hair. Same thing happen to me. I Bced it off in May and I don't know about the hair texture thing. I know my hair isn't as fine as it was when I was younger, but its still cool with me. What products do you use on yur hair ?

Could your texture change be due to having children do you think?

A fashion slave:

On this occasion I just used a mixture of VO5 strawberries and cream conditioner with porosity control shampoo. I also use a little clarifying shampoo too.

then I deep conditioned with lustrasilk deep cholesterol for half an hour (couldn't do anymore than that, mum had the kids and was waiting for me to pick them up!)

I rinsed out and followed up with tea tree moisturizing conditioner.

Over the weekend i'm going to do a nexxus emergencee, and give it the proper attention it deserves... usually takes 2.5 hours start to finish.

... On this occasion, I use the denman brush to detangle, I couldn't find my afro comb or my large tooth comb, so it was like a workman without his tools! LOL, better luck next time.

Once out the shower I used some salerm21 and wildgrowth oil.

Put it in four bunches and now it's dry i'll add some S-Curl and put a scarf over my head.

WOW! You use a lotta stuff on your hair.
I counted 2 shampoos, 2 conditioners, 1 leave in, 1 oil, and S-curl. Are you sure that you need that many products? Sometimes going overboard with products can do you more harm than good. (I know I used to do it.) Why don't you try using 1 shampoo, 1 conditioner, and 1 moisuruizer/styling product.

You do not have to do the big chop if you are not ready. You can do little chops along the way. When I transitioned I did a ton of little chops. Little chops helped me to keep to stay sane when I was transitioning.

There is nothing wrong with your hair so I wish that you wouldn't worry about the return of your childhood texture, whatever that may be.

Good luck on your transition!

Thanks again for the encouragement ladies, I need it right now.

AFS: I'm so jealous of all of you who have regimens, I just haven't found one yet, and it's a bad habit to use more than needed (not that I know what's needed in the first place)

But for this year, I'm making it my mission to create a simple regimen with staple products and stick with it if it works.

I also always cut off at least half an inch when I take my hair out of braids.

xx

Oh stop it; your hair is fine and thick! You have received some great advice and you can do some twists if you want. How long will you go in between braids?

Congratulations on your new growth - it looks lovely!!!
lol - This is a good thread and well timed as I can completely understand where your coming from - I too went through the exact stage as you. I had shoulder length relaxed hair that I wanted to grow out. Having the two textures was an absolute nightmare, eventually I just chopped it off (well my hairdresser did). I'm still struggling a bit now but not as much as when I had the two textures. Please do yourself a favour and chop the relaxer off and get a weave.

I've got the very front of my hair relaxed and it has about an inch if regrowth. I've just taken out the weave (which I had in for nearly 3 months) and I just KNEW the relaxed bits would tangle so I plaited those while I washed the rest of my hair and washed the plaited parts seperately. So that's something you can try next time you have to wash your hair.

I have extremely thick hair and have managed to unwind. I must have spent about 6 hours taking the wweave out, undoing the braids, washing and combing out my hair. I love my natural hair but it's a real bu*ger to deal with. Until it gets to a decent length I will keep weaving. My hair is so thick that the plaits look like Mr Incredible kindda bulky then a little small on the tips!

Good luck with the transitioning!

Oh I forgot to add - Did you use the denman on your hair when it was wet or dry? I tried to use it on my hair when it was wet and I looked at the brush and wasn't too pleased so I just stuck with the afro comb.

LOL, your post did make me smile, I needed it! Thank you.

i'm getting braids or kinky twists again, in maybe a week or so, I like to give my hair a chance to breath, and to give myself a chance to find out how to style it, but it's just not working out with all the perm on the ends, I just wish I could hide for the next 9 months under braids, but I can't! LOL, that would be very nasty! eww!

Anyway, how long did you transition? How long was your natural hair after you chopped?

i might just chop and be done with, but probably not before March.

Thanks for replying.

Gina, I used the denman when my hair was wet, I couldn't find anything else!

I'm going out tomorrow to get the right tools.

lol - talking of braids - I also had my hair in braids for a while, but personally I think the weave is better when your transitioning as there is less breakage.

I kept up with the two textures for about 8 months or so with a weave. The agony came when I had to wash my hair when the weave was taken out. I think I probably had about 3 inches of hair (not stretched out) when I let my hairdresser cut it off. I did feel a lot better for it, knowing that I have thicker healthier hair which had not been processed. I'll try and take a photo before I get my hair done again.

Please do.

Problem is, I'm really not into weaves at all, so braids are my only other option.

I'll get there in the end!

Thanks again.

P.S are you coming to the napp meet up?

Are you detangling while your hair is saturated with conditioner? And are the conditioners you are using giving you really good slip? Cholesterol conditioners work great for some- but they aren't heavy enough for me to get the slip I need to fully detangle. Also detangling transitioning hair was always a lot more tangles- it will get better as you get the rest of those ends off. Your hair is looking very thick and healthy congrats on making it so far.

Forgot to answer this.

You know.. I have no clue, all I know is the texture coming up now is a lot coarser and dry.

My 'back in the day' natural hair was soft, wavy, silky hair.

I guess that was before I damaged it to the bone huh?

Hi there!

To be honest, I haven't found a great conditioner that gives slip (just found out what that means btw)

I'm going to buy and try daily defense tender apple since they sell it at the local £1 shop.

I usually detangle when I get out of the shower, rather than while i'm in. I think this weekends wash will be a lot different, I'll have the right tools and a new conditioner to try. I'm giving myself a strong protein treatment too.

CharUk, your hair has really grown! keep up the good work, by the way, where you do get VO5 Strawberries and cream conditioner. Thanks in advance. Your hair is very thick! Looking very good

Hi Valerie!

Simone (keraqueen) kindly picked me up a few bottles while she was in florida. But VO5 still do it, in the form of Alberto balasm (sp?) but it's raspberries and cream, same ingredients though!
