Jerusalem and the Chosen People

My old coach won't vote for Obama because he said something about Israel and Jerusalem or something...

I don't understand why God would still be trippin off what Israel has and doesn't have if He sent His son to die on the cross for all of us.

Why are Jews the favorites? Does this even apply to life today?

This just makes me think that He really has turned His back on black people. If He's still showing Jews favoritism then it wouldn't surprise me if black folks are His step children

Sorry if I'm talking directly, I'm stuck in active voice because I'm at work so please don't be offended

But yeah this has always confused me :perplexed

Psalm 122:6 in reference to praying for peace in Jerusalem states: "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, They shall prosper that love thee." And Matthew 25:40: "Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, (the Jewish people, Gentiles were not called His brethren), ye have done it unto me."

God made a Blood Covenant with Abraham that from Abraham's seed God would bring forth the living atonement... "Jesus".

God does not break His promises and He has used Israel as the icon, the example upon which His word and prophesies come to pass.

This tells me that since God remains faithful to Abraham, then I can surely trust Him to remain faithful to me; for God does not lie. God's promises are true and I am a sure witness that His word does indeed come to pass.

SummerSolstice it's because some Christians interpret the Book of Revelation in a certain way (and believe in the Rapture). They believe that when Christians are raptured away that Israel/Jews will convert to Christianity and preach the Gospel during the Great Tribulation. The End Times (to those who have this view) are viewed in light of the nation of Israel and what's happening with Israel.

The prophecies of the OT are surely happening but I do not believe that God expects us to have some kind of preferance for Isreal as a nation. The were given the promise and it was fulfilled in Jesus Christ for whosoever will.

I dont believe it is still the same situation as in the Old Testament where nations that opposed Isreal were struck down.

Galadriel it just confuses me cuz they are so anti-Jesus (I know several Jews who are like no, he's not the messiah)

CoilyFields you're the first person who i've seen say that before. I feel like that should be the case now since we're supposed to be all his children :ohwell:

Since he already gave the Jews Jesus, are they still the favorites?

Yeah. There was a specific purpose for God preserving Isreal as a nation. Back in the day as people began to populate the earth and wickedness spread, groups of people created their own idols. These idols were tied to the land. (I think I've mentioned this before somewhere). So for example, there would be a god of Missouri, a god of California etc. So when God "entered the scene" he did so by choosing a people to attach himself to. Abraham received the covenant. God's chosen people were to be an example to the nations around them as to who served the TRUE God. THey were also supposed to demonstrate how to live righteous through the many many many laws that were given to them to differentiate and preserve them from other nations. (If you read "The Signature of God" it explains much more in depth). THe major part of the promise was that through Abrahams seed the world would be blessed. That seed was Jesus. He came to the Jews first (and they rejected him). Then the gospel was offered to the Gentiles. The Jews served their purpose in producing the incarnation and being the first Christians and spreading the gospel.

Like I said before, God is still fulfilling promises (such as the creation of their own nation/state) today but as far as I understand the Jews do not hold an exhalted position anymore. We are all children of God (those who believe), chosen to be king-priests and heirs of salvation. I don't hold to the notion that the State of Isreal can do no wrong and America should support them no matter what because they are Gods chosen people.

Favorites? Even the blessings on Israel to the world have been carried out through the millions of Israelites on the planet. Chosen? To do, to obey and to suffer. That's the jist of being chosen. It wasn't to sit pretty and eat crustless cucumber sandwiches in the shade while sipping tea. Israel has suffered all the way through. There is a connection of (some) Black people to Israel as Israelites abound in Africa (former Jews and other connections). So, it's not about being favorited. Once HaShem promises something, He means it and for eternity. He doesn't change His mind at all. Not one iota or suprasegmental/or accent has changed in scripture from Genesis to Revelations after advent of Jesus. Even He said so. What is lacking is people's misunderstanding. What is worse, imho, is this present world sentiment of examining Israel under a microscope (we know the problems and are working to correct them) while they wreak havoc on another people and part of the world. shtai shekelim ulai...my two shekels.

Romans 2:28-29

King James Version

28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

The word Jew was short for "The Tribe of Judah"..All this meant was God's chosen ppl. These days the word Jew/Jewish is set apart for a particular Religion, but in the bible it was a term meaning "the people of God"...that's it.Just like the word Gentiles meant, the people not of God, who had no knowledge or relationship with Him. People want to make something so deep but it's not. Romans states that Christ came for the salvation of the Gentiles as well. The bible says that he would have NO man perish. God has no favorites because that would make Him a respector of persons, and the bible clearly says He is not.

Hello Everyone! The Jews won a war in 6 days! Their enemies yet fall before them. God loves all of us. He made promises to Israel ( the jews). He is not a man and will not and cannot lie. He will fulfill his word. God is yet fighting wars for us. The more we depend and obey his word, the more he will rain in our lives. I mean a big downpour too.
