Have anyone of you have tried this from the salon. Only place I can find that does it is at New York hair salons. Do you have good results from it? I read it took 3, 4, or 6 hours to do. I read good reviews about it on some message board. The cost is very pricey about $350. DO you hear good thing or bad about it? I plan on try it bout I'm not in New York.

Yes, this is the trendy thing. Exactly; it's called a high priced relaxer with LOTS of heat. I believe its not rec. for AA hair, though other groups have good results. But the bottom line is that it "permanently" straightens your hair --until it grows out. Sound familiar??? Its all packaged under the guise of being a 'Japanes' break-thru style--a new invention.

Hair, I agree with Henrilou. Also, in New York I think that the procedure might cost quite a bit more than $350. It's pretty darned expensive, and it uses a lot of heat. Wherever you try it, please make sure to ask the stylist how many of these procedures he or she has done. Many stylists are now jumping on the bandwagon & might not have applied this procedure to many heads, and you don't want to be a guinea pig. Also, make sure that the stylist has worked with your hair type before. Good luck.

Thanks for those links. I read them. $300-$1000 for a relaxer. The unusual step seems to be to blow out the hair, press it (though they don't use those words, that's what it is) THEN apply more conditioner, rinse/wash and blow and press again. Sounds like you are beating the hair into submission.

As fragile as AA hair is I would not suggest this to anyone!
Yes, I know a Indian girl with thick coarse hair that had it done and it looks great. But, it is not recommend for ANYONE who has ever put ANY type of chemical in their hair in the past, only naturals. So all of us 'relaxed heads' are out. Plus I personally think that only coarse hair can withstand that type of 'abuse'.

Personnally, I agree with those that say that a relaxer would work just as well. There are differenct types of relaxers out there for the different hair types and cultures. A stylist friend of mine says that she charges $600
for this procdure. Yeah, right... that's like 10x more than the average relaxer. To me, it seems kinda faddish but please correct me if I'm wrong.

My Mom who is AA uses this procedure to straighten her hair. It is very pricey but, if you can afford it and depending on your hair type it might be an option.
Additionally, it depends on the expertise of the stylist who is performing the process.
I personally think for my Mom it works great. She did not relax but wanted to remove the wave from hair. She also uses a permanent color on her hair. That was really her main reason for going with the thermal straightening. Her experience has been really positive. It's been over a year now since she's used this process and she's had it retouched 3x. Her hair as a result is silky straight and is in excellent condition even with the permanent color that she uses. However, she did not recommend it for my 4a textured hair.
