I heard of it before, 2 ladies that work with me have done it, I don't think I would try it since it permanantly change the texture of your hair.

I had one similar called the BioIonic. I loved it. It was the best ever. I had nice long hair, then I had a hair dresser who claimed to know what she was doing completely screw up my hair. You can do it yourself but it just takes a little time and patience. I had it done every 6 mos. It's really the same as having your relaxer every 6 mos. The difference is that when your hair gets wet it stays straight and dries straight.

OK, I like the sound of that! But I'm not giving up my Phyto!

The japanese hair straightener can't be used on African American hair due to the very high thermal heat that is used in the process. However there is another straightning technique called the Brazilian hair straightener that not only straightens hair but replaces the damaged keratin that your hair has lost. This can be used on African Amercan hair. It was discussed in LHCF a while ago. Give me a moment so I can find and post the links here.

Whoever told you that is full of crap.:censored: I had it for over 4 years and did wonderfully. Now lets think about this. What special invention is used to get the hair so hot that our hair would not be a candidate for this...oh a blowdryer and flat iron...by the way many of us use this very frequently already. No new technology there.:perplexed:borgsmile The same person who sold you that line probably would be the same naysayer who believes AA hair can't be washed every day either.

But from my understanding, Japanese thermal straightening is a lot more intense heat process than blowdrying or flatironing.

That said, one of my friends has it and her hair has done fine with it. She is half Japanese and relaxers broke her hair off something terrible. Since she likes her hair straight(her natural hair is beautiful, though.:( ) she ups the $600 every six months.

The lady who does her thermal straightening also says African American hair(4a/b), or hair that has been previously relaxed or processed is not a good candidate for thermal straightning.

I dunno who's right. All I know is I don't see the need for it when there are relaxers that do the same thing?

Well I guess I was mistaken:confused:

When I first heard of the japanese hair straightener, I did continuous research on several sites and saw repeatedly that it could not be used on AA hair due to temperatures reaching up to 450 degrees which our hair is too delicate to take. Many ladies here on LHCF have said the same thing when I asked, so I had made the conclusion that it could not be done. I suppose there is a different procedure used when dealing with AA hair?

These sites say that it can't be used on AA hair:

However, this site shows the successful results of a AA woman's hair after thermal reconditioning:

That said, I'm really confused.

i have a girlfriend who's haitian with 3c hair. the japanese hair straightener MESSED her hair up. it was dry, broken off and lifeless.

i would not use it on my hair :nono:

Thanks for all your replies I will pass on this idea. I don't want to grow out my hair and then have it all fall out, been there done that

It looks like you already made up your mind but I have the japanese straightener and love it. I would not recommend doing it yourself because it is a pretty detailed process that leaves too much room for error in my opinion. I've been told that it cannot be done on 4a/4b hair but I know someone with 4a hair who had it done and it looks fabulous. Honestly, I feel like hers looks better than mine.

I can share before and after pics of my hair if anyone is interested.
