If your diet isn't great then...VERYYYY WISE MOVE!

If you have dry hair - Flaxseed/Omega 3 6 9/Silica
If you hair grows slowly - B50 Complex/Biotin/Sea Kelp/L-cysteine
If your hair is brittle - MSM
If you want overall body health and hair health - Multivitamins
If you have thin hair - B50 complex/Biotin

thanks. my diet ain't that great. i'm going out and buying them asap!

lol. take your time with them, dont take too many to start with maybe 2 of what you think may help, research em and stuff.

then slowly add more. also powder form and oil form of vits r more expensive but more potent.

What I'd really suggest you do before you buy anything is to go to on-line vitamin stores like vitamin shoppe, lifesvigor, vitacost, puritan's pride etc. and spend some time looking around. Look at everything to get an idea of what is available. Some general tips I've found doing this:

  • Multis marked "Energy" or "Stress" will have more of the b-vitamins than most regular multis.
  • One a day type multis will tend to skimp on biotin because it is the most expensive b-vitamin. A lot of b complexes do too. Higher-potency multis where you take 3 or 4 pills per day may have more biotin (e.g. Twinlab's women's multi) and you have to look carefully for b-complexes that have any useful amount of biotin (e.g. Vitaline's Biotin Forte, with either 3mg or 5mg of biotin --found at vitamin shoppe, or Olympian Labs B-100 which has 1mg of biotin)
  • Look at anything marketed for hair, skin OR nails. All three tend to benefit from the same nutrients so you really should look at all of them. That's how I found Skin Eternal Plus by Source naturals. It's marketed as a skin supplement but it has more overall than any hair formula or h.s.n. formula I've seen.
  • Don't just look for MSM by itself. Look at all the joint formulas. You'll find silica and collagen and all kinds of useful hair and skin stuff. They also tend to include vitamin c and certain minerals that help with absorption.
  • L-cysteine is an antioxidant, so make sure you check out the antioxidant formulas for good amounts of cysteine. This is a good idea if you want to take a b-complex because a lot of antioxidant formulas will cover your vitamins A, C, and E as well so you'll have a more complete program.

You'll find more things as you investigate. Don't make any hasty decisions. And make sure you shop around at different stores for the best deals.

I know I harp on this a lot  , but don't forget to get your iron checked!!

If you are experiencing thinning hair due to iron deficiency anemia, your doctor can guide you to the amount of iron you may need to take in supplement form to correct the problem. Usually the amount in a daily multi-vitamin is fine for most, but it is always good to let a doctor advise you in case you need to take more.

ETA: Iron is essential for carrying oxygen and nutrients through your blood stream. It also prolongs the life of your red blood cells.

a lot of women here use the "Bargello Method" statred by a women (last name Bargello) who made a great system of vits. Search her name and you should fit the most with the regimen. If you follow it you should get all the vits you need.

i added some biotin on wednesday. i started off taking 1000 mcg a day. now i upped the dosage to 4000 mcg a day after reading the Bargello method. i'll add a multivitamin later in the week.

Centrum is a horse pill but its great. My body can tell when I skip a day. BTW ist here a link for the bargello routine?

MSM is great! my skin had teeny weeny li lspots which went the next day but since a week has passed my skin has cleared COMPLETELY but sadly my freckles are fading :-(

i've had a few headaches, nothing major, and i've been very sleepy and a runny nose...that must be the cleansing action going on. i have no arm pain from my heavy school bag and i hardly sweat at all now in this hot summer heat!

less shedding and even though i dont get breakage anyway, my stands feel so thick. i add half a teaspoon (3,000mg) to my 1 litre bottle of water which i take out with me for the day.

I stopped taking my MSMf or about wa week because I can't stand those big horse pills. I used to shed a lot (I'm talking not breakage shedding with the white bulb) but then my hair stopped, but now that I stoped taking it it's back to normal. I guess I better get back on this quick fast and in a hurry lol.

If one takes l-cystein, doesn't that person need to take something else (I think vitamin c)? I just started with my nordic naturals complete omega 3,6, 9, biotin, msm, b5, multivitamin, silica, flax oil, and flax seeds. My diet is terrible. Hopefully I'll better my diet and lessen the supplements.

Have you tried using the msm powder in drinks instead? http://www.opti-msm.com/ I plan on getting this when I'm finished with my msm tablets. They are awefully large.

try the powder dear!!!! its excellent, just put it in your water and go! its tasteless and really works fast!

well i decided to go back to the recommended dosage of 1000 mg a day. apparently more isn't better. the extra just gets wasted in your system.

Candy_C what brand of msm do you take? I would love to add msm to my vitamin plan but fear a bitter taste.

tia,
tishee

time released is better...the ones that dissolve right away have an excess that gets flushed out. Thats why i like GNCs vitamins because you take two daily and therefore I know that most of it is getting abosrbed.
