It's my Nappiversary! 1 year since the big BC!

In August 2009, I discovered Sunshyne & the folks at Hairlista. I started on my Healthy Hair Care journey. As a result of being an overprocessed relaxed, undermoisturized, too-much heat applying, diy-er (except for the Dominican stylists), I realized that relaxers weren't for me. As a graduate student in SWVA, I knew I didn't have enough time or patience or money to deal with my hair in its relaxed state. And tired of bad stylists, I said goodbye to my hair and BC'ed July 10, 2010 after "transitioning" for a few months. I say "transitioning" because after she cut, I probably had an inch of hair. It's all good. It grows back.

Here I am the morning after my BC. My friend and I went and I tried to buy a wig right after. I thought I looked like a boy. Plus I was afraid of what people were going to think and say. But I decided not to. No hair, don't care.

I don't have any good shots of my texture. I'm a 3c/4a/4b blend. 3c in the top and crown. True 4a in the back. And a little 4b along the sides.

Here are some pictures from March and April 2011, including my first blow out and flat iron:

I banded my hair then blew it out with some Chi silk infusion.

Flat ironed with my Sedu on 320 with a little Chi and Silk Elements heat spray.

Here's my length check today. I think I'm collar bone length? One year post-BC:

I have not cut in a year--no dusts or trims (except to get out a really bad tangle/fairy knot). I'll probably get on that soon...or not. lol

ETA: I swear I edited these pictures to make them smaller. Sorry about the size. Ugh.

Great progress and beautiful hair! Oh and your so pretty. You look like the twin of one of my Sunday school students. HHG!

You are so gorgeous! Thank you for showing your progress! What's your regimen?

Thank you!

I wash every 5-10 days depending on how my hair and scalp feels. I use mostly sulfate free shampoo (Hair-One or Organix), although a few times a month, I use a sulfate shampoo from Suave just to get my hair and scalp squeaky clean.

I co-wash anywhere from 1-4 times a week, though lately I've been pretty lazy and more toward the once a week co-washing. I use VO-5, Suave, Organix, Garnier, Aussie Moist, Herbal Essences. Pretty much whatever is around at the time.

I try to DC once every 2 weeks. I use ORS Replenishing Conditioner, ORS Hair Mayo, Lustrasilk Olive Oil or Carrot Oil Mayo, Aussie Moist 3-minute, or a conditioner mixed with some oils.

I pretty much never use heat. There was a bout during the winter where I was diffusing every few days because I didn't want to go out in the cold with wet hair, but I dry with a towel/t-shirt or let it drip dry.

I'm not very creative with styles, so I wear my hair in a fro or puffs or twists. Sometimes, I get "fancy" and throw some flat twists on the side or back. But mainly I like my hair to be flat because I have to wear a hat to work. I try to keep my twists in as long as possible (up to 10 days-2 weeks) because I hate putting them in. Haha So I often cowash or wash with them in.

When I use twists, I moisturize with Cantu Shea Butter and seal with grapeseed oil or organic shea butter. The most recent time I did my twists, I moisturized with S-Curl and sealed with Cantu. That worked pretty well. I use S-Curl religiously. I have tried almost every "Jerri Juice" out there (Hawaiian Silky, Carefree Curl, Wave Nouveau, etc.) and S-Curl is the best. I spray on my hand and work it into my hair. I also like to spray some on the tips of my fingers and get really close to the roots. This helps my hair stay really moisturized.

I don't seal, but since I'm trying to use up products, I have sealed with heavier "Jerri Juices," like Carefree Curl activator and Wave Nouveau.

I don't use gel often because I'm afraid of it breaking my hair off...and I've had a little bit of breakage in the front from brushing my hair back into a puff, but someday do want to try a wash and go or shingle my hair. It's almost getting to that point where it's grows down instead of out. Exciting! At the moment, I'm not too concerned about curl definition.

Other than that, I'm just trying to keep it as simple as possible. In fact, I just bought a wig so I can leave my hair alone some days.

Hope this helps someone!
