Well, I had my hair in two ponytails (didn't look as kiddie as it sounds) and well my scalp was itching like crazy and since I haven't washed my hair in a while I thought maybe it was dirty or something. So I washed it and as soon as the water touched my scalped..it was like a wild fire of itching

. It won't stop..I even used some shampoo which I stopped doing often since I joined this board and it still itches. Is it possible I'm allergic to a conditioner or does build up contrbute to this or what??

good question & I look forward to other input...Im no expert but i have lots of problems with dry scalp. Is yours always dry? mine is...when u scratch it too much u irritate/damage it which is why it burns from the water touching it...I do the same thing.

Ive been reading a few black haircare books and Ive found I should lubricate it every 3 or 4 days with a light oil(not grease). In the meantime dont scratch if at all possible, the itching is supposed to be the scalp trying to heal and scratching only damages it more. Light oils and scalp massages should help, and Ive also heard good reviews of Keracare Dry and Itchy Scalp poo and conditioner(on my wish list). let us know when and how u find relief! many others have the same issues!

yea, maybe it's that..it doesn't really burn when the water touches it but it itches more but it does seem irritated and sore when the water hits. thanks!

It may be possible that your scalp is reacting to something you're using. A lot of shampoos can make itching worse because they tend to be overly drying and harsh. I used to have the itches, but when I stopped "oiling my scalp" with this particular hair oil (Dark & Lovely), it stopped. Is your scalp itching because it's dry? Do you have flaking also?

Have you trying using light oils such as almond or avocado oil? There are a few products that I used to use for itchy scalp along with scalp massages. They are:

Parnevu Tea Tree Oil (very light)
Mixture of distilled water and a few drops of Peppermint EO
Mixture of Vitamin E, Jojoba Oil, Rosemary EO, Lavendar EO

Those things used to provide instant relief from the itchies and the soreness from itching.

Since modifying my routine, I no longer have the itchies or the flakes.

If your scalp is really sore, I would cut styling down to a minimum. Give it a chance to heal. Hope that helps!

PS, africas best herbal oil is a good light oil.

Im going to try the rosemary oil thing but need bottles to experiment w/ bc I dont want to put it in something and ruin the whole bottle if I dont like it...
