Get a short and really cute wig and keep it moving! 
That's what I did. I was soooo tempted to cut.... and more than once! I got a few wigs (long and short) so I could have the best of both worlds. Styling options and protection.

The last time this weird dissatisfied feeling came upon me and the sneaking but pressing urge to DO SOMETHING drastic and get some BLUNT ends
once I got scissors in my hands it was OVER
AND it would have been shorter had my daughter not thought I flipped my lid and was on one and took the scissors away
ride it out before you do anything , but you already know how we do/get and whats needs to be done
u gotta make sure its what you really want
Sometimes I wonder if these weird things that we go through with our hair isnt just a simple mix of boredom and/or hormones, God knows we can take 'life' out on our hair
not saying ANY of this applies TO YOU, only you know or can get to the bottom of it whats going on with you and why
I know for me, I had to get it out my system, then I was over it

I've been getting the itch too but I think about how hard it's been growing it out
and how much I already have invested... and how hot I'd look with long hair...
have you thought about just getting a wig... a nice short lace front...
