It seems like moisturizers dont penetrate but coat

Is it possible to have some type of harmful barrier on your hair? It seems like moisturizers and conditioners don't penetrate my hair but only coat it. For example, if I moisturized my hair with, let's say, almond oil which is light. My hair would feel like wet wood. It's still brittle feeling with a moist feeling on the coat of it. Anybody ever experienced this?

Plus, do you use different things to moisturize different parts of your hair? Like scalp, new growth, and ends? You might use something on your ends that might clog your scalp or something?

When was the last time you clarified?? Also oil isn't a moisturizer, but rather a lubricant

Moisturizers are water-based...

Your hair just might not like oil. Are you putting it on your hair while dry or wet? Oils just sit on my hair when its dry. Also check your conditioners, they might contain 'cones', I know a lot of ladies dont respond well to those type of ingredients.

For me, I dont put anything on my scalp. Only when I have a a lot of new growth, but even then I just concentrate on the growth(but Im sure some gets on my scalp)

But I mainly concentrate on my ends when I moisturize daily. I use a serum or water base moisturizer.

I've never clarified because I've always thought they were too harsh. Thanks for the reminder about cones, pink flower! I read something about that on a site -- I think ourhair.net or something? I also read that Cream of Nature (the type of shampoo I've always used) leaves a coat on your hair sometimes. I'll go look at the ingredients in various products I use, though.

As far as the oils, I apply them while my hair is moist so it'll seal the water in. You're right, though. My hair might just not like 'em. Creams seem too heavy though
