Isopropyl alcohol in conditioners....

SteelyDan/DonaldFagenFan!
Yesterday I cowashed with Body Shop Olive Glossing conditioner, and it left my hair so soft with good slip. I just looked at the ingredients, and one of them is Isopropyl Alcohol! This is the first-aid/drying alcohol.

Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Olea Europea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Glycerin, Ceteareth-20, Steartrimonium Methosulfate, Benzyl Alcohol, Amodimethicone, Honey, Isopropyl Alcohol, Fragrance, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Wheat Amino Acids, Sodium Chloride, Olea Europea (Olive) Leaf Extract, Disodium EDTA, Tocopherol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Trideceth-12, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate

What is the purpose of IA in conditioners (it's also in Terax Crema and Lamour's Bone Marrow)?

From what I understand Isopropyl Alcohol is used as a solvent to dissolve another ingredient in the mixture and by itself Isopropyl is very drying it must be the olive oil that has added softness to your hair.

Thanx for answering. The thought of companies putting isopropyl alcohol in conditioners makes me ! What would be the long term effect on using conditioners w/ this ingredient?

Now I'm not so sure if I want to buy the bigger bottle of this stuff (I bought a 2oz travel-size bottle to try). :ohwell:

If it is used just to make other things more soluable then you should really see any negative long term side effects especially since it has olive oil and other emollients. Plus olive oil contains squalene which in the longer run helps your hair retain more moisture.

Bumping this old thread to see if anyone uses this ingredient in any of their conditioners and if there is anything wrong w/ it b/c I used Salerm Wheat Germ for the first time today which has it in it and my hair has never felt better! This conditioner gave me slip, slip, slip, moisture, moisture, moisture and some more slip and just want to know what yall think about using this long-term?
TIA

everytime i wash...right before i rinse out my DC i put some on, let it sit for a minute and work it through then detangle under the showerhead with my jibere comb

I used to use Salerm Wheat Germ Mask. I loved it until I used it for a 4th time... my hair got dry. I hated to admit it that my hair only likes it once in a blue moon. Just use whatever works for you. Everyone's hair is different... my hair couldn't take the hit and I have very strong hair.

Thank you for the tip! I'll definitely keep an eye out and watch for any changes.
