Is Your Hair Actually Black Or Is It Just Dark Dark Brown?

It's dark brown. I always believed it was black and it often looks jet black in pics but it's brown. When I ask people what color my hair is they say brown lol. I still see myself as black haired.
When I've colored my hair black, strangers can tell it's colored and they've made remarks about it :spinning:.
My hair also fades from heat damage so it tends to get a brassy shade to it esp in the sun. It looks orange.

But I swear my color changes... some days it's rusty and others it's very nearly black even under bright light. The only theory I have for this is that it depends on how my cuticle is sitting... I think it lightens when it's dry and turns a rich near black when it's more moisturized.

At the moment my hair is very much dark dark brown. Granted, my natural hair has never seen the light of day, (don’t judge me), so I’m sure the color will change once it does (when I get to my ultimate length goal).

Really? Is the color difference very noticeable?

Yes. When my hair is freshly dyed, people who see me regularly will do a double take. I think some of the warmth from the brown makes my skin tone look different.

Dark brown. In the summer it lightens up considerably so it's reddish brown in my crown area.

Two summers ago I was relaxed, and combined with the relaxer, my hair was looking like this during the summer:

It’s a NuBlack/Hotep colour (dingy faux black) versus being a beautiful I’m black n’ I’m proud black (rich dark black).

I once tried a blonde colour and it totally washed me out. Surprisingly when I went red everyone said it totally popped and worked with my undertones.

Same for me. When my hair takes on an ashy brown color, it's a sign that it is dried out. Also, looks lighter when straight.

My hair has always been 1b to me. It was always what I called an ugly brown. Like others when my hair is dry it looks very brown and when properly moisturized it looks black. It took me years to notice this though. My father asked me once (when I first started taking really good care of my hair) if I dyed my hair black. When I said no he was so surprised and said it looks so dark and shiny.
