is your hair a boss?

grabbing life by the pussy
my hair is like me, it's a bawse and it does what it wants. and what is wants is to be rude. :(

i've been a member of LHCF for almost 4 years but i've decided to finally start my HHJ.:look: my problem is, i have absolutely no idea where to begin. when i was natural i just wore twists or a puff. now that i'm relaxed my twists don't have the same fullness and my puff looks weird. i have also phailed multiple attempts at roller-setting and flat ironing. i've been looking on YT and here to find texlaxed heads for ideas but no one's relaxed hair looks like mine. :nono: can y'all hair experts help me with some sort of regimen or a suggestion for styles? anything?

this is freshly washed and wet.

Oooooh you gone getcho *** whipped! :spank:

But to say you havent started your HHJ yet, your hair is long and pretty!

I cant give you advise cuz I aint got no hair so says the board. Sawy.

:giggle:

No advice. But I would wear it just like that in the first pic.

I would, too! I'd maybe find a nice barette or something and then be ready to go

Maybe you didn't leave the relaxer on long enough? But I definitely wouldn't try to leave it on any longer at this time.

That first pic is actually pretty awesome!

I bet you could rock some pretty fly braidouts looking at the shape of your hair

also, you could have fooled me, I thought your hair was natchal.

:lachen:Thats hilarious. Sorry don't mean to laugh at you. I can definitely relate though. My hair is like me. Its quirky and picky and all over the place. It doesn't like to follow rules and is a non-conformist. Sigh!

I'm natural and don't know anything about texlaxed hair.

But your hair is beautiful. :lick:

I am looking forward to seeing the advice as well. I am sure they will offer plenty of things you can do with your hair.

Personally, I think it looks cute in the photos. Maybe add some products to define it a little more. But can I ask......Why have you relaxed it twice in 10 days? What is your current regimen?

Ok, I'm back lol.

I know you said you just started your HHJ, but your hair looks VERY healthy to me. I'd love my natural hair to look like yours in a year or 2 :yep:

If your twists ot twist outs aren't as full as you'd like, maybe you can try using a glycerin based moisturizer to "plump" your hair up a bit? Other than that, I got nothing :nono::lol: I actually think your hair is quite beautiful the way it is.

i would but my hair is so fragile so i'm afraid to wear it "out" like that.

yeah, i'm too afraid to try relaxing the length again.

Wait, you can't do a braid out with all that volume? I think it would look great!

i'll look into braid outs. i'm typically a twistout kinda girl.

also, you could have fooled me, I though your hair was natchal.

everyone does. my mom thought i was lying when i told her i relaxed.:ohwell:

i have no idea what i was thinking.:nono: i don't have a regimen. i had box braids with extensions in for 11 weeks and i took them out last night. i kinda just wing it.:perplexed

My relaxed hair always looked like that. My mama did it with an Optimum box perm. Part of the reason I got overprocessed is because stylists were like "This is virgin hair, I'm going root to tip."

What kind of relaxer do you use? I relaxed/texlaxed my hair and got MUUCCCHHH better results using ORS no lye vs. other brands that dried out my hair. my hair was soft n more smooth w/ ors. Also do you do extra strength or mild? sometimes that can be the difference as well.

lol well if you're hair is bossy, it could be regecting the chemicals and literally refusing to straighten. I've heard of this happening w/ quite a few ladies on here..something to do with hormones.

My hair only acts bossy when it doesnt get what it likes. It only happens when I try something new that is not to its liking.

on to your hair:
You hair is texturized NOT texlaxed, meaning it is closer to its natural state.
You are not going to get the same volume in your twists with texturized hair because your bonds have been broken down.
What relaxer and strength did you use? If you barely smoothed that is going to lead to hair not as straight as you prefer.
If you want to go straighter there is nothing wrong with that, its your decision looking.

What brand relaxer are you using? Do you consider your hair to be coarse/resistant?

silk elements mild. i think it's lye. i'm not sure about coarseness/resistance. my hair laughs at relaxers yet takes color very easily.

when i was younger i used to get super strength box perms, root to tip, and left them on for an hour. my hair still never straightened.

i'm not trying to get my hair straighter. i actually like the way it looks. i just don't know how to handle/style it.:ohwell:

I think it looks pretty like that. However here are some tips for you for some different options.

If you want to go straight you will either need to use some heat in the form of blowdryer and flat iron along with some type of anti-reversion product.
Roller sets can work if you master the technique as well. Buildable Beauty has a really good instructional series on youtube that should help.

If you want to wear styles like twist outs or braid outs you will probably need to incorporate some type of holding product along with your moisturizer or leave-in aka - ecostyler, Curly Pudding, or something similar. Nina Pruitt has a good twist tutorial on youtube. She is half relaxed, half natural and she got really good results.

Good Luck!

thanks! they make it looks so easy.

you're gonna have to show me the empty, used box of relaxer before i believe you ain't natural.
and i thought my hair was a BAWSE. geez louise.
i kid, i kid. as far as styling, i would suggest Youtube. Youtube has sooo many naturals that do styling videos.
for twistouts, braidouts, etc. I'd suggest using foam wraps for hold.
re: regimen building? you'll have to decide how often you want to wash your hair, how you want to wear it, how much time you wanna spend, etc.
but here's a sample of mine:
DC weekly-alternating protein and moisture
shampoo every 3 weeks or so.
style in some sort of way-twistout, braidout, rollerset, etc.
put on a bonnet at night.
end of week: detangle with wide tooth comb/plenty of condish.
repeat.

Are you willing to spend some money on hair accessories? If so, I have these in every single colour. I love them to death and I wear these most days. They are pricey but I promise you they will last forever. They give you the look of regular banana clips but look much more fancy and durable.

As far as a regimen I can't help you there. I keep mine so simple, otherwise it wouldn't work for me. All I can suggest is to find one product in each basic category that works well for you and go from there.

My relaxed hair looked like that. People used to think I was lying when I said it was relaxed.

I think OP should just wear her hair as is. Or she has the length for a bun. All I ever did 95% of the time was use a head band or wrap a scarf around it.

You can try buns and french twists. These styles are easy to do and can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion. You should also practice rollersetting, or find someone to rollerset your hair after washing. Even if you air dry, your hair will be much more manageable once you master the rollerset and you'll be able to wear it down without worrying too much abut knots and tangles.

I noticed that you mentioned using numerous protein treatments in the post you linked to just remember that while protein treatments make your hair stronger, it also makes it more resistant to chemicals, heat and just about every attempt to style it so IMO if you ease up on the protein treatments while increasing moisturising dcs, you'll be pleasantly surpised with how your hair turns out.

One last suggestion is to learn to wrap your hair at night.

I think I have found my hair twin. I'm relaxed and my hair is the EXACT SAME WAY AFTER WASHING. The ONLY way my hair will not frizz up is by doing a roller set (which I suck at) or getting it flat ironed. I'm doing a wash tonight and I'll definitely throw a pic up here. If I airdry my hair, it seriously looks like I'm channeling Sabina Karlsson:

The only thing I can do after washing is throw it into a bun or use hairsticks. I've been trying a different combination of products (oil rinses, porosity control, more/less protein, more/less moisturizers) with no avail.

It's honestly why I doubt I can do natural hair. I can barely manage it when it's relaxed!

i don't even pay that much for shoes!:lachen:those are very cute though.

i don't regularly do protein treatments but i was just so desperate then. i actually haven't done one since i made that post.

please do!:yep: i was natural for 4 years and i had a much easier time with styles tbh. i mean, it was harder to handle, don't get me wrong, but almost everything i did looked good. relaxed hair isn't as forgiving.

thanks for the advice y'all!

-______________- What about this one? They are still pretty large and will hold a lot of hair and they are cheaper too. I promise you that you won't regret buying one of these. My hair is VERY dense AND coarse and I haven't broken one. This is coming from someone who used to break goody ponytail holders daily.

People find it hard to understand when I tell them I use a relaxer in my hair too:
IMG_1073-vi.jpg

But that's actually how I like my hair to look. I've never had natural hair at the length I have now so its hard to compare but I can do more easily do styles for naturals than styles for relaxed hair. When I want a new idea I just hit up Youtube until I find one that I like.

PS: If your hair feels weak please do a protein treatment and give it a fighting chance. I recently started using Ultrasheen Duotex and that stuffs great. Did you do a pre-neutralizing protein step when you relaxed?
