Is Vigorol A Real Relaxer?

I just visited an online BSS that still sells this. I thought they were out of production. My grandmother used to put a Vigorol in my hair as a child, but I don't remember having silky straight hair from it.

Does anyone know if Vigorol is a real perm or just a temporary fix?

It's a texturizer. My mom used to use it on me too. I had really nice press n curls, but other than that....it was just kinky/straight.

I was wondering the same thing I'm glad you started this thread ....my grandmother used to use it in my hair as a child also....in fact I have a couple of bottles of it in my cabinet now but too chicken to use it. erplexed

I had this as a child as well. Its good for pressing. On the downside, if you want to get a regular relaxer it may break your hair when you combine the two products. That's what happened to me as a kid anyway.

yeah, this is usually what little girls get before they are old enough for a real relaxer. It just loosens up the curl pattern enough to make it manageable and to make a press hold really well.

That stuff did nothing for my hair but make it stink.

It basically just removes access bulk, allowing the hair to be more manageable, holds a press like it's relaxed hair, but the downside is that it strips the hair of oils and moisture. If anyone uses this be prepared to start doing some major DC and moisturing, once you get the moisture back it's really good.

i used vigorol and it was not one of the best decisions ive ever made... it made my hair a lil more manageable but... it dried my hair out..and my hair has been breaking ever since ... and that was a long time ago... and the effect wasnt even everywhere.. i don't know, i really wish i never did it

Great responses! So does a Vigorol have to "grow" out of your hair like a relaxer, or is it more like a color rinse, where it'll eventually be washed away? Is there ever a time when the hair (if it has a Vigorol) is 2 different textures?

It has to grow out, I guess it depends on the texture of your hair because I haven't seen a difference in the two textures from pple I've used it on in the past, it's just easier to comb and stuff, but the two textures look the same to me. After months of NG you can began to tell the difference from the NG and the already Vigoroled part when combing the hair, blow drying and pressing.

someone has recommended vigorol to me as a way to loosen my curls and hold a "press" longer and i am still debating this.

i really don't want to mess up my hair. besides how do you od a touch up with it if it is liquid? if it overlaps will it break off?

This thread took me back. I have a Vigor WHOA or a Vigor NO when I was a kid. I didn't know they still made it. No comments. Just remembering...
