Is using a flat iron that bad if....

If you airdry then flat iron? I have a ceramic flat iron and I only have to run the iron over each section once. I'm wondering if I can use it on a regular basis, like every other wash if I airdry first. Is sitting under a hooded dryer for an hour and a half any more damaging?
Supergirl's picture of her hair after she airdried then flat ironed looks so full and bouncy so I just had to ask for opinions because I'd love to do the same thing.

Thanks you guys!

Well it's less heat than blow drying then ironing, but it's still heat. The less heat you use in a given amount of time the better.

Make sure you're using a heat protectant. A good one that was recommended by ValleyGirl is New Image Damage Free Thermal Active Conditioning Styler (Heat Protectant). It's being discontinued, but you may still find some at Sally Beauty Supply. Since everyone's hair is different, I say keep a good eye on your hair while you're doing this. If you notice any negative things from doing this on a regular basis, you should probably decrease your flat iron usage. You said you're doing this on a regular basis. How often is that? I use my ceramic flat iron about once a month. I love it, and I haven't experienced any negative things from doing so.

Thanks EmeraldSky.

I think it's okay to do every once in a while, but definitely not on a regular basis if achieving more length is one of your goals. Okay

For me regular basis is every two weeks. I wash my hair at least every weekend and sometimes in between so I was thinking that every other weekend wash I would use the flat iron. Otherwise I airdry or rollerset, but I wanted to check and see if anyone had negative results from using a flat iron every two weeks because my hair growth and condition is more important than the look the flat iron gives me!

To airdry and then flat-iron is definitely the lesser of two evils compared to blow-drying. Only you know your hair. If your hair is getting longer and you've been able to flat-iron it every other week then

Myself, well my last stylist (scissor happy) caused me to cut out heat all together, because I assumed that her trimming so much was due to me using heat, though I wasn't using much. (but again, she was just scissor happy)

I do believe that you can maximize your length in a minimum amount of time by using the least amount of heat possible. I use my ceramic curling iron about every 3-4 months, if that.

Be sure to use a good heat protectant on the hair, especially the ends. I like New Image Damage Free, Lanza Protectshine, and Mizani ThermaStrength, and Thermelastic. I actually used all of these the last time I used heat in my hair.
