or is there no huge difference between them??? I just bought the solia flatiron because I heard that tourmaline is soo great. But is there really a difference..is it really more healthy for the hair or is it just a gimmick???- Melissa

i think there is a difference. i heard tourmaline conducts the negative ions better when its heated. i think ceramic is good, but i think tourmaline ceramic is the new "it" iron. with technology improving all the time, they'll probably have something even better in 3 months (:D ) but i think for now, tourmaline ceramic is the top of the line. i'm very very happy with my new tourmaline, ceramic flat iron!

What brand do you have?

I thnk they are better, as well. But, even still, not all the ceramic ones are ionic, I've read. Ionic ones are better than ceramic ones, too.

I can really tell a difference in my hair now that I gave away my cheap ceramic iron a bought a nicer ionic one.

I use a tourmaline once and the results werw comparable to my ceramic one, but it seemed to work better and faster.

I have a sedu flat iron which is Ceramic tourmaline and a T3 flat iron which is 100% tourmaline (and expensive as ****!!). I think the reason why ppl say the T3 causes less damage is because it doesn't get as hot as the sedu. I think the tourmaline creates less damage white the ceramic help smooth it. This is my theory. I think the tourmaline creates heat in a more stable pattern. So, in conclusion I say go for an iron with ceramic AND tourmaline.

My hairdresser flat ironed my hair with a tourmaline flat iron and my hair smelled burnt for days. Plus she doesn't have very good flat ironing skills which made it really a waste of time. I know that thing was super hot because a few times she got too close to my scalp and I was jumping out the chair almost...hated it.

I need one

I know it will make such a difference

I reaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllly want a T3

It is not all that! I doesn't smooth as good as the sedu. So if you like bone striaght with no volume go with sedu. The t3 leaves a little volume. I will use it the first 2 weeks after a relaxer because my hair gets pin straight after my relaxer. But it does leave a nice little bouce with it (but then again so does the sedu)

Oh Okay.. Good to know then... I want my hair pin straight and after my next relaxer on my birthday weekend in APRIL :D Imma use fiberguard..

Cuz Im about to color again

I dont like the T3 either. I work at sephora and we are always getting returns on T3's . But I cant blame it all on the iron because my friends T3 straightened my hair but when I bought one and tried it out it did nothing for my hair. I might have just gotten a defficient T3 but either way I was too disappointed to try it again. So I just bought the solia. I did a test patch and my hair felt so silky after one swept. I think Im in love with it. -Melissa

Marie, that burnt hair smell is the reason I gave up on cheap curling irons and flat irons. I now only use ceramic with ion. I have the T3 and love it.

Perhaps your stylist really didn't have a true ceramic iron. Meaning, solid ceramic plates, not coated plates. The better irons are also made with a bit of a side to them so the plates won't directly touch the scalp or even come close enough to make it that uncomfortable.

I totally agree! I used to use a cheapo by Conair and my hair smelled burnt sort of. Once I got my sedu, those days were over.

I didn't notice the brand name of it but it said tourmaline down the side of it and that sucka was hot. Maybe she had it turned up at hot as it could go..who knows...she will never flat iron my hair again. I do way better myself with the marcels and I never get that burnt smell.
