Is this typical 4a behavior?

I just realized that I don't relax very often.... only twice a year, once in a while three times.

The funny thing is that the newgrowth doesn't bother me.

After wet setting it and air drying it makes these tiny waves, not curls.

I usually dampen it with leave in and water after the wet set dries and comb it and put the curlers back in and wait for it to dry again, then it's mostly straight. You have to look very closely at it to see all of the little waves, when I get a relaxer (really a texturizer because my hair is resistant, almost nothing gets it straight) there isn't much difference in length because It's already very close to being straight. The only difference is that it's easier to comb through and I don't have to set it twice.

When I don't roller set I have a bunch of pen spring curls, when I comb through that I have a fro...

what hair type does it sound like to you? Does anyone else's hair behave like this?

your hair sounds just like mine, but i may not be of help because i really don't know my hair type either. i consider my hair a 4a.

my hair does the same exact thing. my newgrowth is very wavy. heat doesn't work well with my hair. it makes it very dry, so i just hair dry. i air dry my hair in a ponytail and it comes out straight with wavy newgrowth, but i get relaxers though. i notice a lot of growth with my hair. how often do u get a texturizer?

Your hair sounds exactly like mine, to a tee. I consider myself 4a too, although I think there might be a few varied textures there.

My new growth is wavy too. I don't have any curls per say. I've never been able to figure my hair type for sure. I guess I would call it 4a/b.

Here's a pic @ 6wks post relaxer:

do u usually get that amount of growth at 6 weeks? I would categorize your new growth as a 3b/c. Those are waves not tight curls.

Yup ArmyQT, you are definitely in the 3 category. I would say 3b/c too although it looks like 3b (but the relaxed hair could be stretching it).

3 huh? I would've never categorized my hair in the 3s at all. actaully I must admit that my waves are much looser since taking MSM.

Britt, no I don't usually have that much growth @ 6weeks, but I am taking vitamins. PM me with any questions cause I don't wanna hijack this thread.

I forgot to write this my first response...everyone sees their hair texture differently...I see a lot of people that I think have textures just like mine and they consider themselves 4a and I would consider mine to be 3b/c...so its all up to the person i guess...

hair typing confuses me!

I have noticed a change in texture with the msm but this brand I bought recently has done nothing for me. I may have to go back to trimedica or maybe doctors best. God bless you all.

I am sure that I am a type 3B/C .My hair looked just like Armyqt's when I neeed a touchup from my relaxer. You can check my album out to see what my hair lookes like fully natural and then you can get an idea of a 3b/c if you arent sure. Now of course everyones hair isnt exactly the same, but its similar.

Yup, I know you're in the 3 category. You look like 3b...
And Leejure, although mixed 3, looks majority 3b to me too.

I too have seen some people say they're 4a but when I look at their hair, it's more like 3c. That's the hardest to tell the difference between I guess.

I KNOW I'm majority 4a- my hair is curly but they're tiny and you don't know they're curls until you are rather close.
My hair is like DelaSeoul's and NGC's.

I do believe that you are a 4a....Im also 4a with a little 4b in my crown I also have little pen spring curls but I love them, just not enough to stop relaxing, but they dont bother me.
