So I was doing my weekly wash this week and noticed the hair in my comb while I was detangling my hair. For the past couple of times that I have washed, I have had about this much hair left in my comb. My question is, is this to much hair? Could I possibly be pulling hair out while detangling? Or, is this breakage at its worst?

I am currently 11wks post and will be getting a relaxer at the beginning of November. I am not expecting to have no hair in the comb when I wash, but I just don't know if this is the right amount.

Help me out ladies, please???

I don't have relaxed hair so take this with a grain of salt but that looks like a lot to me. You might want to try deep conditioning to reduce breakage.

Personally I think that is a bit much, but I have never stretched my relaxer that long.

My mom has a lot like that and when I saw it I told her that I thought that was too much hair lost. She said it was normal for her and that she does not worry about, so I left it alone. But, she washes her hair in the sink and has to detangle it more as a result. I cannot get her to wash her hair in the shower!!

Do you get that much when at other times when you don't have as much new growth?

Nope I sure dont.....I also wash in the sink because it's quicker for me. The last time I stretched, I made it to 18wks. I honestly can't remember how much I shedded once I started getting past 10wks, during that stretch. So maybe that is the reason for it, just a lot of new growth? I dont know. I just want to make sure that I'm not doing more harm than good.

Also with every wash I deep condition.

Personally, I dont think its that bad. Do you comb everyday?

I would say not really, the only time I truly run a comb completely through my hair is on wash days. Now I do brush, which is a habit I'm trying not to do so much of.

Well since you dont comb everyday I definitely dont think its too much at all.:) Actually I think thats good considering you're 11 wks post, too.

Sweet AKA,

You read my mind!!! I took pics of the amount of hair that has been shedding every time I detangle after I wash... the more NG I have, it seems the more I shed. And I try to be as gentle as possible. I don't understand the concept of why hair sheds with more new growth...

Well for now, I am going to try and use conditioner with a lot of more slippage, for my combing/detangling. You can do a forum search on "best slippage" and somewhere in there, there's a thread regarding best slip in conditioners and shampoos.

Try that out.

If anyone knows why hair sheds with more NG, please let me know!!

(BTW, I had to show my DH my hair I lost in the comb, because I felt I am going bald... He is well trained ;) He encouraged me, that it was nothing... I chose to believe him)

Oh, I have noticed that when we get a relaxer or get a hair dye put in, many people see less shedding than before. Maybe, there is a chemical reaction/balance that occurs which our NG is lacking..... Girls help me out

and sweetaka, that hair amount is nothing to worry about... hopefully

I think it is because you are 11 weeks post..If it keeps up you should go ahead and retouch your hair..JMO...It really don't seems like alot of hair for 11 weeks post...do you comb your hair everyday? anyhoo if it doesn't stop do your retouch a week early or do a protein treatment.

Thanks a lot ladies. I am going to do my retouch on Wednesday or either Thursday morning, since I just washed last night.

I think me stretching 11wks may be my downfall. The first time I stretched it was so easy. Now I'm not as far, and it's getting harder. So I think 11wks may be my new retouch time.

But thanks a bunch you guys for your help. :)

I agree! I only comb once per week (on wash day), and as a result the hair that comes out sometimes looks a bit much. But its just an accumulation of shed hair that would have been coming out daily. And by combing once a week, im reducing that random breakage that sometimes occurs, that just drives me crazy!!

I think the answer may be subjective depending on the head AND most importantly the length. The longer the hair is the more it looks like.

My hair is BSL and that looks like nothing to me. But for someone that is chin length that may be a lot. I think that is pretty good, but then again I am speaking as if I shedded that from my OWN head.

I have been struggling with the same thing. Twice I washed and detangled and got sooo much hair on the comb and bath tub..........its upsetting me even if it might be normal.

I am getting twice as much hair as you......I don't know what to do but the protein treatment sounds good. I haven't done that one, I did an oil treat this weekend and my have feels good but that detangling AHHHHHHrg!!! scary..

I have wondered if not combing everyday is worse than seeing the daily shedding. I use a wide tooth comb but lately i have been going over it with a smaller toothed one to see if that helps....... I am feelin' you and I hope more folks have some more tips....

I also thought the change of weather shedding might be part of it but I don't know...... I can't even remember how long its been for my post state ( really bad!!) so that could be a cumulative issue as well...ok I am babbling!! sowwy

After yesterday...( wash day) I am considering cutting it:ohwell:

Good luck!!!

Your avi looks great BTW!

Yeah the last time I washed in the shower and detangled I had hair everywhere. That was depressing, so I know how you feel. It took me about 30-40min just to detangle, because I wanted to make sure I wasnt going to pull out more hair. I almost dred washing my hair during this time.

For me, that is not a lot. Also sometime people shed more during certain times of the year. I dont think that you have anything to worry about.

That doesn't look like too much to me considering you don't comb it daily and you are 11 weeks post relaxing. Until I found out those fact I thought it was a bit much but only slightly. Knowing what I know now I don't think it looks like a lot at all.
