I gave myself a very lite dusting early January. Before that, I had not had a trim in over a year. I've been scared to look at my ends and how much I may need to cut. Well, I just straightened it and my ends don't look bad at all! I put a little oil on them babies and kept it moving but I'm wondering how I've retained all that length over a year???? I NEVER wear it down really or straight and here lately I haven't been doing much of anything besides washing it. I follow the KISS rule basically without really meaning to. Lawd I don't even buy hair products like I used to.

Is this a fluke? Dang protective styling is all that huh? I'm sold!

Eta...I guess I'm wondering if I'm being deceived and if I should trim it anyway.

no matter how gentle i am and how protective the style i must dust every 3 months no ifs ands or buts. everyones hair is different, you are one of the lucky ones :) congrats to keeping it simple and staying consistent! if your ends don't look see thru or split keep 'em!

When I religiously protective style I only need to trim once a year.

The more I wear my hair down, the more I have to dust.

Yay! My hair is the same. I have been natural for almost one year and my hair has been braided up under a wig. I wrap my head with silk, put on the wig cap and then the wig. I have noticed a couple ssk's but nothing serious. I plan on trimming my hair a few days before my nappyversary. I'm going to try the moon trimming.

Great. Thank you for responding.

Sometimes I get bored with PS'ing but I see the results are worth it.

Is that trimming with the moon phases?

@ShiShiPooPoo, ITA with @southerncitygirl I must trim/dust to maintain healthy ends. I went a period of a year without a trim. Everything looked good at first and then splits started and it took a good chop to correct the issue. Won't do that again.

What exactly is the supposed benefit behind the moon trimming? I have never really had it explained to me.

I agree, protective styling and no heat really can result in this!

Congrats

Go Girl! PS and sealing your ends is the truth! I don't think it's a fluke, Sounds like your hair is in great condition

Yes, it's totally possible. I second MixedGirl with keeping heat to a minimum in addition to protective styling. Congrats and keep it up!
