Sooo my boo decided to surprise me and purchased me some hair, and it is beautiful! The only problem is that I can't tell if is hand tied or not... If so I want to make sure I properly seal them before they are installed.

*sorry the pics are so big, I'm posting from my phone*

Help!!!

It looks handtied to me because of the way the hair looks like it's separated but I'm not an expert so I may be wrong. I think you should always seal though no matter what kind of weft.

I'd seal no matter what, but that's just me.

I can't get over the fact that your boo bought you hair. I can't even imagine my SO walkin up in here with some #4 virgin curly.

Thank you ladies! I was at a loss.

1 more question though, what is the best way to seal? I have heard some people mention a product called fray block but do I just coat the threaded ends in this? TIA!

I guess he got tired of me talking about it! He had it wrapped and everything :)

Looks machine tied to me but I would seal the weft either way. You can use the fray blocker or even super glue. You want to apply it to the weft. There aren't too many weavanistas over here, you should check out BHM.

I sealed with Fray Block. Saturate the weft, then let it dry, and keep going until the bottle is empty. Or.....that's what I did. :look:

*Timidly raises hand* I don't do weaves and I don't know what you guys are talking about. :cry4:

If anyone has a free moment, care to tutor me after class on how you can tell and how you seal and when you seal? Or just point me to Weaving 101 so I can get an education.

TIA :hide:

looks handtied. Did you ask where he got it from? Maybe the vendor has a site so you can be 100%. I never used handtied, and I never sealed my wefts on machine tied. I've heard some techinique where the hair is not cut at all, but at some point you would have to cut and seal. As a sealer I've heard crazy/nail glue. Beautiful hair he picked out.

Nonie - we are talking about how the hair is attached to the weft. Cutting/not cutting wefts makes a difference in shedding of hair on the tracks. Machine tied can usually be cut w/no probs, hand tied unravels and must be sealed if you do.

handtied and you will need to seal them.

Sealing is when you use a fabric sealer like Dritz or Aleene's Stop Fray along both sides of the wefts to prevent shedding, especially if you plan on cutting the wefts.

I don't recommend cutting hand tied wefts because you loose more hair that way. Fold method is a lot better and easier for reuse of the hair for future installs.
