Is this good growth?

I've been growing out the hair in my nape area for about 5 months.

The length increased only by an inch or so.

BUT

There were little patches that were almost bald, they filled in completely. Is this normal hair growth, to first thicken, then lengthen?

I have experience the same type of growth. In transitioning I lost 75% of my hair ( didn't know what I was doin'

). The bald place grew back slowly. Got thick and know is attempting to lengthen. Maybe know everyone's hair may grow this way. Mine's definitely has....
