I told a stylist that I wanted a rollerset when I get my touch up tommorow and I asked if he had large rollers. He didnt have any so I asked if he could get some before I come in. The stylist then asked me to bring mine with me since I have some at home. I'm like :perplexed. Was that ghetto for a stylist to say that to a client. I considered cancelling my appt. but I really want my hair looking good for the holiday :ohwell:. I understand that most of his clients (even me) usually want a flat iron or press and curl but damn. I dont thing it would kill him to buy some larger rollers.

I don't think that's ghetto but it's not good customer service or business scene. If he cared about keeping you as a longterm customer he would have bought the rollers.

I do think that's a little weird. I mean he's the stylist, he's supposed to supply those things. Maybe he really doesn't use them that often to feel like he should have to invest in them for just one client :ohwell: Does he let you bring in your own products?

I wouldn't cancel my appointment over that though. If you trust him enough to relax your hair, then I'd just bring in the rollers from home.

i think he should be prepared...i mean if you are bringing in ur own rollers he should at least give you a discount.....professionals, carry products that their customers use/like. I wouldnt cancel, but i would ask for a discount...thats just me.

No he doesnt ask me to bring my own products (i definately would go elsewhere if he did). He has affirm relaxer which I like.

He should buy the rollers and keep them in his stash of supplies. Maybe he just never bought any that big, IDK. But he should now in case he needs them. A pack of rollers doesn't cost that much.

That would make me pause for a moment. As mentioned before, it's good business to be prepared with business supplies. What if a restaurant you're making reservations for asked you to bring your own silverware because they ran out?! :drunk:

Since this is a special occasion and he's done such a great job with your beautiful hair, IMO it's okay to let this slide and bring your own. At least, you are familiar with your rollers and you know they haven't been used in anyone else's hair. :)

I wouldn't say ghetto. There is a girl that brings her own rollers to the salon I go to but she likes to get it rolled then go home. She said she hates sitting under the dryer.

I personally dont' see the big deal but thats just me. I can see how its unprofessional but if he rarely does them I can see why he doesn't feel the need to buy them for this one time. Since I have a dryer at home that would sit alright with me b/c I'd let him roll my hair, pay, and then leave. Once I start relaxing my hair again thats what I plan on doing.

BTW at my salon we don't have flexie rod. But if someone wants it done they bring their own. Or if the stylist does it enough will have her own but we all ususally dont have them.

Thank you.

Caliber, what size rollers were you inquiring about--purple or gray? He shoulda at least had those 2 sizes. Now I could probably understand if he didnt have anything larger than the gray.

I don't think it's ghetto. I think that he just wants to make sure that you get the curls that you want, so he asked you to bring in the rollers that you normally use. Maybe after he does your hair, he will purchase some for his own stash.

Strange, no roller variety; what else doesn't this guy have..neutralizers, plastic caps, bobby pins, salon heat, ear covers? Hate to be in the middle of a service and discover the lack. I could understand some exotic, rarely used supplies not being in stock but roller sizes?:nono:

BTW what color rollers were you looking for? The stylists that I used to go to never carried anything bigger than the purple ones. I think many stylists purchase rollers in sets.

I would think it was ghetto if you were not a regular, sometimes stylist build a relationship with their clients and can say/ask them to do certain things. But I personally think he should have atleast asked if you could pick the ones you prefer up for him and he'll reimburst you when you arrive, since he may have a busy schedule and by the time he stops working BSS are closed and may not have the time first thing in the morning. Now there's a big difference in picking them up for him so that he has them in stock and bring your own, meaning you'll probably end up doing that everytime you want a set.

On another note alot of AA stylist don't do rollersets (even though that's the first style you do and perfect in hair school) on the regular let alone at all, so it's not really odd to me that he doesnt' have any. The majority of his customers probably don't even know what a R-set is.

I wanted him to use the gray rollers. I have gray and purple at home and he has neither. He has smaller ones.

I don't call this being "ghetto." It simply seems as though he very rarely does rollersets and may not have time to shop for the rollers you requested in time for your appointment. I personally don't think that's reason enough to cancel your appointment. By the way, I know of quite a few stylists who don't even do rollersets.

^That is what I was thinking

If being ghetto’s wrong, I don’t want to be right! j/k

Seriously, it’s perfectly all right to bring your own. :yep: Heck, a lot of women bring their own rollers and supplies. Just like you’d bring your own files and nail supplies when you get a manicure for sanitary reasons, women do bring their own rollers. I’ve been to salons too many times and have witnessed – and put up with – stylists who take rollers out of one head and put them straight in someone else’s without sanitizing them first. What if the client had a fungal infection or something that they missed?!?

I bring all my own products and supplies with me to the salon for a touch-up. And, I still pay full price for the service. After all, I’m mostly paying for the stylist’s time and resources, not the products and supplies

That said, your stylist should have been more accommodating if you told him you felt uncomfortable brining your own supplies. Rollers are super-cheap and the stylist should be investing in his own business, anyway, to handle a variety of hair lengths. How can he not have large rollers and won't buy any? Doesn't make sense.

not at all...I mean the one and only time I went to a Dominican salon I saw so many sisters there with literally their own bag of supplies...like shampoos, conditioners, gloss, combs....why would rollers be a big deal...it's your hair...but if you're a regular customer...he should try to accommodate you.
maybe they don't expect sisters with hair that long ..that's all yours! :lachen:your hair is gorgeous by the way...I'm about bsl...I want wsl....if possible, longer and beyond....
